Is the '83 a CCC carb?

Computer Command Control (or somesuch, it's been a long time.) Computer control of mixture control solenoid, and the carb feeds back throttle position to the computer via a throttle position sensor.

No computer, no control of mixture control solenoid. Car runs like crap.

"Most" Q-Jets after '81 were computer controlled. Some pickups retained non-computer control for a few years thereafter, although even then they had an electric doohickus to provide cold enrichment beyond what was available with the choke.

If the carb came from a truck, it MAY work. Remember that these carbs were VERY lean, particularly if used on a larger engine, which is a crap shoot. It was the cars that had the CCC system. Do not go by the connector on top either; it is likely to have the electrical solenoid for the accelerator pump modifier, which used the same type connector. Ray
