Will A 70 Intake Fit On A 73 Block?

Hi guys. Can anyone tell me if a 70 455 intake will work properly on a 73 455 block? I had a book that told me the interchange on the heads and blocks and what will fit as far as intake manifolds. Any idea about the intake fitting properly?

    Thanks

    Bob

Assuming that you are using '73 heads, it would be no different than using an aftermarket manifold, the EGR passages running from the head would be shut off by the intake flange as the '70 intake won't have a provision for these passages, it would be adviseable to have the heat crossover passages plugged in the heads to avoid the excessive heat transfer from the head to the intake. '72 and later heads had (4) A.I.R. holes per head (approximately 1/4") that will be exposed if used with a '71 or earlier intake! You will need to plug those BEFORE use with that intake....providing the heads are '73 same as the block. If you do not you will have multiple little annoying exhaust leaks and will definately burn the nice paint you put on that intake to "spruce" it up. They are the small holes you will see on the backside of the exhaust bowl if you have the valves out of the head.:Smarty:

    Hope this helps...:)

You got it Kerry.....plus the heat riser is much bigger on the 73 heads....70 intake may not cover it.

    Hi Guys,

Curtis....the Performer covers them fine as it was designed for ALL years of BBB in mind. Basically the difference between the pre-'72 intakes and the later are if you look at the center top portion area of the intake between the middle ports (3 & 5 and 4 & 6) there will be a "dip" or drop between the bolt holes. The later intakes as well as the Performer are level all the way across. That is the area that will expose the heat riser passages and those A.I.R. holes.

If i had any pic's to show this I would post them...but unfortunately I do not.:(

    Hope that's a better description...:)
