    Is this a 400ci?
Number on the crank is 1379242CFD8K

Its a engine from a 69 Sportwagon, I think its a 430, did they still make 400 engine in 69 or is this a early engine swap?

Some chebby shop did this motor and the crank is gonner not useable anymore. Looking for a crank for this with bearings/seal etc.

    Hello flying Dutchman,

In 1968 and 1969 you had the GS400...so it could be from a 400ci...

    Hello,

I always thought GS400 was a reference to the Torque rating rather then a description of the engine CI.

    I have owned a 69 GS400 Skylark, that one had a 430 engine.
As far as I know the 400 engine was discontinued in 67/68.

So thus my question with the cranknumber to be sure.

Okay, no it says cubic inches. The years 1968/1968 400ci is 6.6 liter (Horsepower 340/Torque 440). 430ci is 7.0 liter (Horsepower 360/Torque 475). Only the Electra, Wildcat and Riviera came with the 430ci from the factory. On earlier years the decal on the airfilter housing was a reference to Torque specifications like you said. I have no information about the number on the crank though...

    Buick 400 (1967-69)

    Buick 430 (1967-69)

    Buick 455 (1970-76)

All of these share the same crankshaft.

    Ok tnx Jim,

Any leads perhaps on a good possible just machined crank?
    With the clearances numbers etc.

I have a lead for one downhere, but are exploring the options for a friend who had his engine rebuild at a chebby shop and who did all the wrong things to it.

He hadn't inform me about the rebuild otherwise I would have stopped him.

The crank was so loose by the wrong machinework that al the crank seals keep popping out and the flexplate was hitting the starter.
Alle the mainbearings are in the oilpan now, and I warned him for more trouble what this crankshaft maybe have done to the other parts and places of the engine. I hope for him its only the crank and bearings.

Put an ad in the Parts Wanted Section and you will get one. As you know shipping is the issue. JW may have some also.

Also there are several 455 engines for sale on the Board cheap. If te Seller will strap one to a pallet and shrink wrap it you can get an entire engine sent to a Boat.

Will do, Shipping is not an issue anymore, ship it to Texas and it goes there with the boat for a reasonable price.

I post an add for a crankshaft and hopesomeone in Texas has one.

Jim, im going to be converting my 70 GS from a auto to manual trans, i have a 76 block and crank, do you know if there is any issue for the pilot bearing on the 76 crank, or is it idenitcal to the 70 crank?

  10. Techically all B, C, and E bodies - including LeSabre, not listed - had the 430 from 67-69, which morphed into the 455 in 1970.

As for torque vs cid on the air cleaner, believe that sunsetted with the nailheads in 1966.

I don't know you should ask Jim he will for sure know the answer.

The '67-'69 LeSabre never saw the big block 400 or 430 V8. Buick finally offered the 455 in the LeSabre in '70.

Some folks are fooled by the "LeSabre 400" option which was a 350 V8 with a 400 transmission.

I have seen posts that claim some cranks must be machined before a pilot bearing will fit as it should.

the company that i will buy the kit from said they will machine the pilot to fit bearing if needed.

  15. Well I stand corrected:idea2:, although, on checking my '67 shop manual, it says the LeSabre had the 340, with three tranny options, including the ST300 and ST400 w/ a 2.93 rear, and a 3-speed manual w/ a 3.36! '69 had the same three tranny options, but the manual in theory came with a 3.23 rear end. Not sure about the '68. Strange marketing strategies...:eek2:
