I am in the process of rebuilding my buick 350 to about 350 horses. I came across a 200r-4 that was rebuilt on 2/18/2010. Should i beef this up? I will use 8.5 rear end with 3.42 gears.

I dont know the specs of the rebuild but if should
    where was it rebuilt at?
    or whats the asking price?
dependingon price my be better off going to a premier 2004r builder/vender such as extreme transmissions

well i bought an 86 buick regal that didn't run from a guy who got it from elsewhere not long before he sold it to me. the 3.8 v6 was shot after pulling the old greasy motor a noticed the shiny casing and new dipstick on the tranny. 2/18/10 was written on the tranny with a paint marker. stall converter is blue. guy don't know anything about the previous owner or who had tranny work done on it. he said he drove it as a daily driver until one day the motor just died. then i found it.

a 200 will hold up for years in a 12.00 ET car 3400 lbs if it is a grand national transmission.if you are going to produce HP lower than mid 11s you will need to start adding billet parts.so my input 400 HP or lower no problem over 400 HP you may be rebuilding it every few years.I ran a rebuild one for 3 years in 98-99-2000 in my GN and it is still in the car but getting soft on shifts. my car full street weight ran 11.80s all day and 11.60s on a good night
good info here i build mine from one of the recipes

alright thanks guys. since i don't have to dump money in the tranny i can spend a lil more on suspension. :TU:

I would look into upgraded valve body. A stock 2004r on a 300 HP engine I bet you will burn second gear band . Upgrade to a 10 vane pump too. Check turbo Buick website for a dealer for trans parts. Also don't connect torque converter to engine until you have throttle cable adjusted right or pump will be damaged and send metal into convertor.if you have an early intake you will need a spacer under carb for cable and adapter.

i plan on using a ta 350 aluminum intake with rochester 4bbl rebuild with 200r-4 linkage and automatic choke. at every day performance in the vendor section he said he can make my 4bbl qjet carb work with 200r-4 tranny. do i need a different stall converter? how about installing a trans cooler? or will the stock tranny lines that run into my radiator work fine?

I would believe that you should get a convertor to match the cam you are using. Stock lines will need to be altered some as the 1 fitting into trans is farther away then most. I would add a cooler myself.get some kind of lockup kit , that can cause extra heat on longer drives that will damage trans .
