will 71 skylark PS pump & hoses work on 64 Special PS box?

Upon closer inspection it turns out my 64 special deluxe had power steering (there was masking tape over the ports and the tape had black overspray so it wasn't immediately noticeable and the pitman arm was disconnected).

Will the power steering box and hoses from a 71 skylark work with this 64 ps box? I did notice numbers on the cover plate of the 64's ps box and some numbers on the main body of the 64 ps box. Le me know if it helps to post those numbers and I will. I did a decode search here and on Google but didn't find a quick site dedicated to those numbers.

If the 71 has the 350 engine it should bolt on with minimal issues. I did this several years ago with my 64 Skylark 300-2 engine. The only problem I had was the later pump used metric fittings, so check for that. Make sure to grab all the mounting brackets from the later engine.:Smarty:

Cool sounds like it won't be too difficult. The good news is that the entire 71 350 4bbl engine with all it's brackets is going into my 64. I hope the fittings from the 71's hoses fit my 64 steering box but if not I'll deal with it.

update: so far it seems OK haven't run it yet

Well I got the hoses hooked up to the steering box and all seems fine. Both fittings threaded into the steering box without issue and seemed to clamp down tight. The hoses are both from the 71 skylark donor car (attached to the 71 stock pump/engine just as we pulled it).

I've searched multiple posts and read up on all the issues with mid 60's vs. early 70's setups. I don't know, perhaps this steering box is an early 70's model? With this car anything is possible, since the pitman arm washer and nut was MIA beefor I got the car. Since I don't know, I took a picture and jotted down all the part numbers I could see on top of the steering box. On the main body of the steering box, standing where the drivers side fender goes and looking down, in large font is this number:

    56914676
below that is what I'm guessing a clock symbol and a 12, and then /48. On the cover plate of the steering box is 5689023 with a funny looking "G" and a "1" (one)

reading from the other direction (standing at passenger side fender) on a rectangular machined face on the same cover plate is 054 C

When I spin at the rag joint I get about 4.25 turns lock to lock.

maybe this will be fine, once I fire up the engine I'll look for leaks at the box fittings i guess.

Thanks for the link Bill! And nice Skylark by the way. Looks like a great improvement to me. going from over 4 turns lock-to-lock to 2.5-3, that would be nice. I'm putting it on my list...
