I had the factory 1973 Buick 350 and the original Quadrajet and had the Quadrajet rebuilt by National Quad. from Florida at factory specs. Will that same Quad. fit a 1973 455 mtr as well? I dont only mean Fit but also do the job to run the 455.
It will physically bolt on but it won't run properly. It needs significant adjustments to run properly, probably too lean for the bigger motor. I'm sure someone with more intimate knowledge will chime in shortly.
Yes it will bolt on and run. Not very well. 350 carbs are more prone to nozzle drip on a 455, which can mess up the idle. 350 carbs will be too lean jetted, especially the secondary side, on a 455. Generally speaking 350 carbs are also air flap limited to less cfm than a 455 carb, in stock form, so wot performance can suffer.
Thank you all for the info., I honestly kind of figured but the only thing that made me EVEN THINK TWICE.... was when i was on ebay and saw the Q-Jet labeled for a 350 & 455... for that one Q-jet... I didnt think a 2 for 1 was poss. i know it takes a little more combustion for that 455 then the 350. Just thought i'd ask anyways.
it can be set up to work, but you would be better off with a 455 quadrajet. there are many differences between the two. I would take your 350 carb as a core trade for a built 455 carb if you are interested.
I've read several threads and articles about qjets and what I have gathered from it all is that a 800cfm qjet is perfect for a 455. Use AX secondary rods, set the float to 9/32, and jet the primary circuit according to your build. From what i understand, there are different spring rates to lean or richen the APT (adjustable part throttle). I definately dont know it all about them, but i have been reading and learning. Carmantx is super savvy with these carbs. He built one for me that I put on my 350, and I had to make only minor adjustments for it to work flawlessly on my 455.
unless it's a 455 carb and the seller just said 350 first? If u can get the nums off it u will no for sure
