Ive been looking around on the internet and I have noticed the large amount of 350 parts but no where as much for the 340. I'm wondering if most 350 parts will fit on the 340 or if the block is completely different. Thanks.

will a 350 mount into the same location as a 340? I ask because I found a Gs340 roller and I have a Buick350 that I could through in there.

    yes.

primary differences between the 340 and 350 are valve order and the resultant changes in heads, cam and manifolds.

look at your 340. see how there are 4 separate down pipes from the head to the collector? now look at any 350. on a 350 the center exhaust valves are next to each other so there are only "3" down pipes. this is the opposite of the 340 which has the center intake valves side by side.

Could you grind a 350 cam on a 340 blank? Then bolt up all the after market goodies? Like turbo kits,X-factors, heads, and headers? I know you could drop in a 350 but if you don't have the time/facility for the swap this could be practical.

actually, aside from the intake issue, the 340 probably has more "available" for it than the 350 does. you'd just have to get the really good stuff imported from England or Australia.

most of the Rover v8 3.5L+ parts will bolt onto the 340. the Rover has had aluminum aftermarket heads for years and racing versions have been punched out to 6.0 Liter. EFI and serpentine setups as well.

with only a 2 year production run nobody focuses on the 340's though.

if you want to do something with the 340 you might want to get ahold of D&D Fabrications and see what they think might work:

any engine using those performance parts would require a complete rebuild anyways. might as well get a dirt cheap junkyard 350 SBB and build that while you tool around with the 340 in the car. a couple hundred dollars for a rebuildable block is cheap when you're talking about spending 5-10+ grand on sporty parts.

I think I need to flip a coin. A 65 Riv or a 67GS340. I like them both. Just can't buy them both

That would be a great thing! I've done the 350 in place of a 300, and it was very smooth . In my case easier than the 455 into the 65 (V6)-way less plumbing issues- I was able to use the 300's power steering and alternator brackets (if I remember right) on the 350. And the 350 is just great, well balanced, great intake ports, strong bottom end, etc etc-
Just the thing to put twin turbos on, right guys?
