I have an opportunity to purchase a 340 with transmission locally and want to see if it will fit in the 64 special. Will it fit and can you use the 300 motor mounts to make it work? Any advice is appreciated. It currently has the 225 v6 and i want to upgrade to a/c and power steering, which according to the local BCA guys, the v6 wont do well with the extra load.
Grab it fast!! Same engine externally so the mounts are the same. The 340 is a stroked 300. Great engine!! GRAB IT!!!!
Never had a v-6,not sure on that. But the 300/340 mounts are the same & it's a direct bolt in and a good often overlooked motor:TU:
340 ok - unless ya need to look later for a 4bbl intake ? my car is a '65 chassis that was originally a v6 , used the v6 frame mounts and 300v8 motor mounts i believe to mount the 350 . bottom of motor same , mount to bellhousing distance the same , just two extra cyl's ahead of mounts basically . alot of the accessory brackets etc the same , your fan shroud and coolant hoses etc will need to be figured out . del
thanks to all of you for the quick input. I will wait for sellers response to my email on craigslist and go see it.
only problem I forsee is the oil pan on the 64 not clearing the x-frame the 64 300 had a special oil pan to clear the frame, but shouldnt be much of issue to correct..eithr find a 64 300 pan or mod the one off the 340
it should drop right in but if i recall right you must use 64-65 motor mounts 66 SBB and newer ones will not fit the frame pads other than that its a brease I put a 350 in my 64 and there was a 340 in my 65 when i got it no problems just be sure on the motor mounts before you try and put it in the car !!!! ken
