A guy in my neighborhood was driving an old school Camaro with 335 mm tires on the rear. I thought they looked cool. I did some research and found a 385 mm tire. Has anybody put a 335 tire on the rear of their skylark? I'm thinking about doing an 18x12 rim with a 335/30/18 tire. I would love to do an 18x10 because it is around 50% cheaper, but I doubt it would be wise to do an 18x10 rim.
Never mind on the 385. I'm not reading anything good on the 385. I think it would be more problems than it worth. The 385 is a low profile tire and I don't like the way they look.
Won't fit. A 335 rear tire will require a mini-tub, frame notching, etc. The cost of the wheel and tire will be least of the overall investment.
How much does a mini tub cost? What would be the biggest size I could fit back there without a mini tub?
remove body from frame , narrow rear if the needed backspace isnt avaliable, move tubs in "lot of tedious work" , notch rear rails or move them in and go coil over, etc etc its a domino effect. ie easily $2500 plus
There are 25.4 mm to one inch. A 385 tire is over 15" wide. The 335 is over 13" wide. Here is a good thread on 15 X 10" wheels on a 70 Buick GS, http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.p...-are-here!!!&highlight=315/60R-15+drag+radial On a 10" wide wheel, you will need 5 1/2-5 5/8" of back spacing for the 70-72 Skylark/GS. Doesn't matter if the wheel is 14, 15, 16, 17, or 18" , it needs the same back spacing. Phil put a 325/50R-15 on that 10" wide rim. That tire is close to 28" tall. If you want bigger rims, just select a size where the overall tire height is 26.6-28" tall.
http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.p...-are-here!!!&highlight=315/60R-15+drag+radial Read the linked thread above. No mods? You mean on your stock wheels? Are they 15 X 7's?
I'm not sure what size rim I have. The rear tires are P275/60r 15. The front tires are 205/70r 15. If I had to guess I would say 15x7. What I mean by no mod is what is the biggest size wheel and tire I can put on the rear without mini tubing it. I don't mind paying $2400 to get it done. I'm just trying see at what size I will have to mini tub it.
The thread I linked has all the information you need. Phil used 15 X 10 rims with 5 5/8" back spacing, and put P325/50R-15 in the back of his 70 GS. Those are the biggest tires I have seen on a stock GS. Here are the pictures from that thread. http://www.v8buick.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4714&d=1048358751 http://www.v8buick.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4715&d=1048358795 http://www.v8buick.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4716&d=1048358842 http://www.v8buick.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4717&d=1048358913
You can possibly fit(been done once on a 69 chevelle with success) a 335 on a 11inch wide rim with 6.25 BS, but it should be on a 12in wide rim, which requires a 1inch frame notch single rim would be 700 and up for 12 wide plus cost of minitub/notch
Can anybody give me a rough estimate on how much it would cost to mini tub my skylark to make 355mm tires fit?
heres the cost for actual minitub kit, will have to call about the 70-72 tubs i believe they have them, just not listed on site http://abcperformance.net/mini tub kit.html No idea on labor costs Probably about 1-1500 in labor if you buy above kit also have to factor in price for rear coil over shocks so mini tub kit $950 prefabbed tubs 500-600 coil overs 500+ possibly less, can be allot more around 1k depending if you get triple adjustable ridetechs labor should be around 1k-1500
Thanks, I called them about my car. It's going to cost me $2869 on parts. The biggest rim I put on there are 345mm.
whats the breakdown for the $2869? also was I right about ABC having prefabbed wide wheel tubs for 68-72?
