So, i'm in need of getting some new tires for my skylark.
There's a couple guys selling some decently priced tire/rim combos pretty locally to me.
But my question is, and I can't seem to find it on here, is what is the widest tire you've stuck under a car with fender skirts?:Do No: More specifically a 67 Skylark.
(only thread I found was for 15" rims http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=73853&highlight=tires+fender+skirt)

I'm also fine with knowing just a good tire size that would fit on the stock 14" steelies as well.
The ones on there currently are 14" rims with 205's on them, two of them are getting pretty dry rotted, and i figure if i'm going to replace them I might as well get a decent tire than just something cheap that fits.

Any help is greatly appriciated! :)
Or if you can direct me to a past thread I'll eagarly read that!

No skirts, but I managed to squeeze a pair of 11" wide tires on 15" wheels inside the rear fenders of a '66 Le Mans. Had to remove the bottom shock bolts to remove the tires, which can get a little old at the side of the road. That 400 Stage III motor really liked to destroy the tires, too.

I swapped in a 3.42 posi rearend from a 81 Cutlass in my 67. I run 17x8 rears with 255/45vr17 tires, and still have clearance betwen the skirt and the tires. The cutlass rearend (OR any g-body) is 4 inches narower, and allows for a more common wheel backspacing.

    thanks for the replies!

I guess I should specify what people have put under a all stock skylark.

Cool ideas if I ever get that radical!:TU:

I'm running currently on my 71 GS, P295s on a 15X10 rim. It's very tight but you can get it to work with the skirts on. Remember rear axles differ a little from car to car. John.

205r70x14 will fit. 225r70x14 - maybe; if u lose the skirts, then yes.
personally, i learned to hate fender skirts as i was the i had to wash many cars, with skirts, that my dad owned when i was young. take them off, wash the inside, wash the outside, re-install. enough!!

I'm actually kinda fond of the skirts myself, but I haven't had to take them on and off a million times yet.

current tires are 205/75R-14, for some odd reason I thought it had 195's on it, anyways, those fit no problem with some space to spare.

I really need to find some one with a tire size tester, or what ever they call it.

I have a 71 gs with a 12 bolt under it, i use stock 15" steel wheels with a set of 275/60/15 goodyear eagle ss drag radials. The combo seems to fit very well, i have no issues of rubbing on the skirts and they do pretty well at the track.
