Ok, so I was out at the car, after putting in wire-holders for the spark plugs last night, they were twist-tied together uzzled: So after doing that yesterday, and working today, I wanted to get out before dark to check to see if that helped with the choking and sputtering any. Simple fix would be great! So I open the door, toss the keys on the dash, and watch them slide right down into the defrost vent. ou: :eek2: I stared dumbfounded at the vent. Nothing I had would pull the keys out, just push them in further. I guess I gotta go get one of those flexible magnetic pick-up tools tomorrow.
I have a old car speaker, to use the magnet, but can't figure out just how I'd make use of it. It won't magnetize anything I have around. And it's not as simple as a stick with tape, because it has to bend to make it under the windshield. If it comes down to it, any clue how to get into that vent? Pop out? Push the keys down, and pull them out from the bottom? Forget them and get new ones made at the dealership? Bet THAT'D be fun to explain.
claw I have a tool similar to the magnet on the end of a flex, but it has a button you push and it opens up a 4 pronged claw at the end to grab your item. I have been able to grab things my magnet wouldn't get. Not sure where you might get ahold of one of these but they are out there.
since my ignition broke and had to be replaced, as well as the drivers side door, i have to have a keyring to keep all four of my car keys together. pass. door, drivers door, ignition and the trunk. makes it kind of a pain when im in a hurry pete
Well I don't see a problem. I just stick a screwdriver in the ignition and pound it in with a hammer. Seems to work for me....er wait your not stealing the car, nevermind that won't work  Patrick
Well, I went to Advance Auto today and bought one of those magnetic flexible tools. After worrying it might not fit width-wise into the vent, it did, and though I think I shoved the keys even further, I finally heard metal-to metal contact, and got my keys back. Oh, and the car still ran crappy after rearranging the wires. Guess it'll take a little more than $5 in wire clips.
Very easy to diagnose your problem with choking and sputtering. Your carb needs a rebuild or your ignition system is very weak. I would start with the plugs and determine the condition of ignition, too rich, lean, oil fouling etc. Most of the time the problem is ignition wires, plugs, points, condensor, cap, rotor, coil. Very cheap to replace all of them.
GStage1, I'm hoping you're correct. I just thought it was strange that it would rev in neutral, but in gear it sputters with more than just a little gas. I'll check them when it stops raining if there's time. Oh BTW, the front door handle inside had broken, and the window crank knob was missing. I bought a new crank, put it on in the rear, and moved the rear one to the front (originals are slightly green tinted). I moved the door handle from the rear to the front (gotta love 4-doors) and hooked up a wire to the rear one so that it can be opened from the inside. Looks tacky, but works for now until I can find a replacement. Even though the car isn't running right yet, I'd say today was pretty productive.
Keys??? have not had ignition key since I owned my Buick. Did not think they came with them. Just got that twisty thing on the steering column and push the secret button. (must have been worked on by Patrick)
