Why did they name a gran sport a Gran Sport? Just saw the movie Grand Torino, Why did they not call my 71' Grand Sport? Anything to do with Granny? Anybody work for GM here? Well i dont know the answer to ur question, but i know that the movie is called Gran Torino, not Grand. And it was a great movie :TU:
There was a Grand Sport Corvette in the early 60's, so I guess rights to the name were already taken. Or maybe Buick went with 'Gran' for the European touch, like the Ferarris.
Gran is a german word. It's Etymology from the Latin grandis Adjective grandis (grande) full-grown, grown up large, great, grand, tall, lofty powerful aged, old
I speak German all the time at home (it is not my own language), but gran is not a German word. Grande is French
Thats what the problem was with it, to predictable of a story line that we have all seen 1000s times over. Its an afterschool movie at best.

Yep, that makes sense..http://www.websters-online-dictionary.org/definition/gran There's a contrary in your post: Gran-Grand-Grandis is from Latin and German is not a Latin (Roman) language (like French, Spanish, Italian and Portugese are). I searched Webster, but couldn't find a relation to the German language. Do you have a link?
Italian. As to why Buick chose "Gran" rather than "Grand"...most likely following Pontiac's lead with their GTO, which stands for Gran Turisimo Omologato (Grand Touring Homologated in English), a particular category of grand touring race car...

I'm sure the price has now gone up due to the movie. <img src="http://images.scottfisher.multiply.com/image/39/photos/3/600x600/7/Scotts-1971-Buick-Gran-Sport.jpg?et=aLIxvS5UvIpGpwdZUhoaSQ&nmid=128721847" width="643" align="center"> The 1971 Buick GS Gran Sport <img src="http://images.scottfisher.multiply.com/image/1/photos/7/600x600/8/sm-kfog-logo.gif?et=84gz1rx2ncocx1NNKxH8jg&nmid=135078519width="900" align="center">
First, that's not a pic of a Gran Torino, and it's a different year than the one in the movie. Second, why do you always attach all these big pictures to your posts?
Don't you love pictures? How come you repeat what I wrote? LOL <img src="http://images.scottfisher.multiply.com/image/1/photos/7/600x600/8/sm-kfog-logo.gif?et=84gz1rx2ncocx1NNKxH8jg&nmid=135078519width="900" align="center">
I like seeing the larger pictures as one get more details with said size. AND, they are easier on older eyes to view. With that said, some people just like to complain about anything and everything. It's just their lot in life! Go figure! :bla: p Jim :bglasses:
