The holes in the spray bar are aimed right at the center divider. It's the worst at the rear of the intake. Don't kid yourself into thinking that this is acceptable. I used to and was rewarded with nitrous backfires through the carb - enough to warp the crap out of my ram air aircleaner lid!
Only issue there is making sure the hood doesn't contact the aircleaner. Clearance is really tight with aftermarket intakes and a spacer to boot.
Nick is right. I had a 200hp shot running 11.2s at 117 about 5 years ago with the same setup you have there.
I use a one inch open spacer then the spray bar then carb on that. This is on a 350 motor TA intake. I also use a K&N drop base Flo-Control air cleaner that is 4 inches high and all of this fits under the hood, but just barely. I ran a best of 11.87 on a 125 shot.
My bad Andrew, I should have realized it was a SB car and clearance wouldn't be such an issue. I know for certain the BB cars are really tight in that area.
OK, I'm clear on that now. Thanks! I'll look for a deal on a 1" spread bore spacer and drop base air cleaner.
You might want to look into Nitrous Express' Spraybar-less plate conversion. I ran the Hitman kit with this plate conversion on a dual-plane manifold with no backfires to speak of... it's finding its way onto my BBB come spring :Brow: Check out www.nitrousexpress.com for all their products, and any speed shop should be able to get you the plate alone without a problem :TU:
Just a thought - what about the nitrous system that sprays from the air cleaner top, above the carb? Is that a good idea, or does it play havoc with carb flow?
Top shot systems are an excellent way to put a baby baby shot on a motor; however, you have to compensate by running very rich with the carb (if I'm not mistaken). I looked into one of those set ups a long while back, and in theory its great for sneaking nitrous on the car--but its just not too realistic for a street car IMO
The "Top Shot" kits are only good for mechanical secondary carbs. They spray both Nitrous and Fuel trhough the carb. No change in carb jetting is necessary.
One of the nitrous kit makers makes a plate with the spray-bar going driver-to-passenger side, rather than front-back. Seems like that would be the way to go, without worrying about hood clearance issues.
That would be cool. Any idea what company that is? There are a heck of a lot of companies peddling N2O these days.
What about milling down the center divider in the manifold. You would probably loose a little low end torque but gain at the top end. I know that this is a cheap fix for a Postons or stock intake.
Wonder if you could thin it, with a knife-edge along the top? Might not have to cut it down as far then... o No:
