On my 71 350 I am getting fuel that dumps out the top of the carbarator, which seems to come out every hole on the top and from somewhere inside-which I can see spilling into the secondaries. It seems to run fine sometimes, withiout this problem, but when it happens it really comes out. I put another carb on there ( a older carter) and it still did this out two holes on the top. I am now running a different carb which seems to run without this problem. Is this problem only related to the carbs, or is there some problem in the engine that would cause it to push fuel back out or cause to much to enter the carb? I can't think of anything that would cause the engine to do this. could a bad fuel pump or jumping timing chain cause this?
your float is screwed. you'd be better taking the carb off and either rebuilding it yourself or sending it off if you have the funds. but your float is screwed big time
Carb Problem Sounds like the float is sticking, or there is dirt stopping the inlet needle from seating and shutting off the fuel entering the fuel bowl. Try tapping the carb lightly in the fuel bowl area to see if this eliminates the problem. In any case sounds like it's carb o'haul time ! Take care with spilled fuel and a hot engine too ! :TU:
Don't run that engine until you get the carb fixed! I've seen several guys lose their cars with leaking fuel. Check this one out. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971...616533025QQcategoryZ39405QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
DO NOT forget to check the condition of your oil . that amount of fuel dumping in will almost always wash past the rings , take the oil coating off the cylinder walls ( bad ) and mix in with the oil in the pan ( also bad ) . check the oil level ( probably overfull , thin and smells gassy ) - if needed drain , refill with decent cheap oil and filter , run for a few minutes until a little warm , redrain and let it set for awhile to get as much out as possible and refill with quality oil and filter . del
Yes like some of the other guys here said with regards to your oil and engine. Drail your oil. It's easier to get some new oil than a new engine. Cheap insurance. And yes this happened to me. A stuck float and a hydraulically locked up motor. I just drained the oil pulled the plugs and let the car sit for a week to get rid of all the excess fuel in the engine. One to learn from. John. ou:
wow thanks for the advice guys, I didn't even know about that other stuff. I kept an exstingusher handy in case of a fire, but having the oil ruined from the gas was something that I didn't think about-some real good advice.
Carb Gush I Just Had This Problem On My 71 350. For Me It Was The Float Position. Pull The Top Of The Carb And Re Adjust Your Float. I Had Just Rebuilt My Carb And Had Fuel Gushing Out Of The Top. It May Take A Few Tries But This Should Fix It.
