Why Do Hooker Headers Fit So Badly?

The Hooker supercomp headers I bought from a board member for my 455 were new in the box. The engine is installed in a 71 GS with factory motor mounts, but one of the header tubes on the passenger side hits the frame. Also, with my Magnaflow x-pipe exhaust system exactly centered and level, the driver's side collector lines up perfectly but the passenger side is off by about 1-1/2 inches. I talked to a muffler shop guy who said the headers and exhaust could be heated and bent enough to provide clearance and alignment, although I'm a little concerned about cracking and/or crimping. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this experience with Hooker headers?

None ever fit good. Some you have to beat mote than others. I have given up on them.

Some Hookers were designed so one tube on the passenger side goes outside of the frame. In order to install those you had to cut a hole in the passenger side inner fender. I would just resale those to a race car owner and get some TA shorties.

Hooker headers went in fine on my 72 lark. No issues except that I had to lift the driver's side of the engine to get them in there. Oh, also, the dipstick had to be ground down because the tube crimped when I torqued the bolts down.
