My love for buick started probably at the age of 11 or 12. I saw this beutiful car and everytime we passed the place it was parked i never failed to look. being young I could only see the colors of yellow and black. I watched this yellow and black car move from the front of the buisness to a back lot. I remmber seeing the words GSX. later down the road i got my first car a 72 monte carlo. it was something about those a bodys i really liked even at a young age. I got to thinking about that old car i remmember seeing and tried to find a car like it, but all i could come up with was a gtx. that was not the car i had seen. While on a trip to pick up a 67 camaro. the owner sold the car before i got there. so i looked in the paper (recylcler) and saw this 72 skylark custom it was advertised as a 71. I thought to myself that is an a body so I inquired upon it. I then drove home my california desert garaged skylark. Once i started to get myself involved with buicks, I learned of a car called the GSX and thats what started my addiction to buicks. And know I have to cars a 72 skylark and a 70 GS.

    69GS400s ...my own amusement ride!

I grew up in the back of a '69 all White Sportwagon400/400, woodgrain delete.

I cant count the hours i spent, but remember it as if yesterday, looking up and out of the Vista roof......or laying in the back looking out the greenhouse.

We had a summerhouse in the Catskill Mts, about a 2.5 hour drive and every year the wagon would get filled to the brim, including lawnchairs and bikes on the roofrack for the first trip up of the season.

Recently, while helping my parents clean house for an eventual move, i found a few pictures of not only the Sportwagon in our driveway, but the Rambler wagon it replaced :) "The Green Hornet" we called that one.....the Sportwagon was known to us as "Casper....the friendly Ghost"

I also remember Dad letting me sit in his Lap at the age of 5, and letting me steer the Sporty as we drove around the summer house colony dirt road

Sooo.....I've been driving Buicks since i was Five:gt:

The first memory I have relating to Buicks was my Uncle Cliff's '56 or '57 Special. Two tone white over brown.
He then bought a white '61 LeSabre.
I remember being fascinated by the speedometer that was reflected in a mirror.
He was a Buick man till the end and I used to bug my Aunt all the time about selling me the '67 LeSabre he had when he died in '73.
    Never got it though.

My Dad's brother was also a Buick man and I recall at one time he had a '71 Centurian and a '72 Electra sitting in his garage.

My Dad was more of an Oldsmobile / Pontiac guy while I was growing up. I remember the first time I saw a '66 Riviera on the showroom of Swanberg and Schefe Buick.
Champagne Gold with Black vinyl top.
Dad ended up buying a '66 Toronado, which was cool, but I always had that '66 Riv in my mind.
In high school my auto shop teacher swore by Buicks!
He had a '67 Skylark that he drag raced, and a '68 or '69 Riviera. This guy was such a diehard Buick fan that on the final exam had a 20 point question at the end that asked us to spell the name of his car.(the Riviera)
I was one of a few thet got the extra 20 points. The last I remember before I left in '79 was he had gotten a'70 GSX that was a flood car, it had several inches of mud in the interior and everywhere else for that matter.
His name was Anderson and taught at Irondale High School in New Brighton Mn, Maybe someone here knows him? :Do No:

I finally got my '66 Riv in 1980, Bought it in Wisconsin and It had just been painted, very sharp!
Boy, the stories that car could tell! :Brow:
After 7 hard years I sold it. And have regretted it ever since.

I'm getting a little long winded. So I'll stop here.

My story is a bit different from most. I did not grow up into Buicks, or even cars. Dad IS NOT a car guy. When I started college I was sharing a 68 4-door slant six Coronet with my brother. Well, you can guess how well that was working out... At the time, my sister's boyfriend was my manager at work, and he always drove me home after work, around midnight. (I think he had some ulterior motives in being so available for rides home!)
Anyway, he had a 72 GS 350, and would get 10 kinds of sideways on the empty late night streets. Since my brother and I were on the verge of killing each other, I convinced my parents to co-sign a loan for me to get my own car. I figured I'd get one of those GSs. Found a 70 455 car that had been advertised for sale in an old Auto Trader (News on Wheels, to New Orleans locals). Called, it hadn't sold, but it was not on the market anymore. Gave the seller my number and waited 3 months for him to decide to sell again. My friends and family were truly puzzled when I turned into a "gearhead," overnight! The rest is history....
(Of course, I still have the car.)

Me?...well I have been into muscle cars since getting out of the service in 85.
    SS's,BigBlocks, Chevy's mainly, oh yeah my first car a 67 F**D LTD 390....
You see after I got out of the service was try to buy a 84 GN, my dad had to co-sign and wanted to take it for a drive......"Dad It's just a V-6 car!" when he nailed it after turning around in a parking lot.........well to say the least he was impressed , but..didn't beleive I needed that much horsepower. even in a V-6?
"sir theres a turbo in that car that's why so much ummph" there went the air out of my ballon on that purchase.
Anyways after the service and then getting married and setteling in for the long haul I wanted to get a 84 Hurst Olds, to replace my 84 Cutlass with a 403 I just sold.
The bank wouldnt give me the money because of it's loan value...that evening was a cruise in at a local burger joint and a friend of mine kept chatting about this "black car"..
Well after chatting with the owner I got a ride in a 86 GN built to the hilt!!
So the next week I inqurie about being able to purchase a GN for the loan value, yess was the answer and the search was on!!
The next is history and the the little V-6 that could did in the the form of a 86 GN!!!
This was untill recently when it gave up it's spirits to the rust god and the performance king.
Enter the Regal and its recent quest on swapping in a 455.

Oh yeah.....my dad drove the Regal last Friday......."Chris it's to loud!,it has some power....hmmm dose it go fast?"yes", punch it"
well to say the least in the middle of town at a residential stop light wasn't the best choice....he couldint figure out why it didnt move as fast as he thought it would ..till he noticed losta of tire smoke.
My dad is a minister and very respectful in nature of things, this caught him off gaurd....."Uhhhhhhh Chris? how in the ----- are the brakes?
Dad smiled when it was all over and thought a trip to DQ would calm his nerves.
"Chris thats one sharp ride, please dont hurt yourself in it, now uhmmm don't tell mom ...OK?"
Love ya dad thanks for the approval
The Buick `s have been the most easiest engines to work on and having a great group of people to help ya tinker on them..
will keep Buicks in my family for years to come

Mine was through my stepdad (in 1989 when i was 7 and he was restoring a 1970 GS 455 , burnished saddle black top car; sweet ride, sold it at 1990 GS nats to some guy in Chicago; Saw it at 1991 Nats and has never been seen again.) My stepdad is a buick fanatic, owning tons of old 225s, lesabres, even wildcats. We had a 69 GS California, and a few other gran sports. We are in the process of buying a Sportswagon, so buicks run in our blodd basically. Getting a buick was great, because nobody thinks they are fast and i can smoke more chevys/ricers than anyone believes:laugh: ! I love hearing kids telling me how a honda civic bone stock will smoke my car. Hell i took out one of my stepdad's 225s with a 430 and beat the hell out of lightly modified civic. He told me he had $3k in it and was running 14s:jd: ! Jesus, people are dumber and dumber aren't they! Ill keep on loving Buicks, making sure people my age, who are not all dumb, four of my best friends have been to the GS Nats and know Buicks are for real! I will love Buicks and keep educating people who think they know what fast cars, UNTIL THEY CANT SEE MY LICENSE PLATE ON MY BUICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:moonu:

My love for Buick began back in the late 80's when I purchased my 69 Wildcat (I was a chevy fanatic back then, bought the Buick because I thought the name was cool). I could sit at a stop sign and power brake it through 2nd (speedo pointing to 70) let off the brake feel it shift into 3rd and watch the speedo shoot to 80 and keep the tire smoking for a block:eek2: Even my freinds Hi-Po:puzzled: 350 71 El Camino couldn't do that. Just pissed him off:grin: Been Buick sence then, just out of the habbit for a few years.

    Tell the truth, Eric...

I was gonna give you the chance to tell the first Buick story and you blew it:moonu:

When we were kids, Mom and Dad had and old green 4-door Buick. I want to say a 225 or a Wildcat, around a '64 I think. Well, it had an after market AC unit mounted on the tranny hump. Y'all remember those. Well Eric liked to lay down on the front seat with his head in the middle (no child seats back then). Seems that Mom had to stop real fast one day and, being only 5' 4" tall, she had to have the seat really close to touch the pedals. When she hit the brakes, Eric just kinda slid of the seat and promptly got his head stuck between the seat and the AC unit. Of course, Mom couldn't back the seat up to free his noodle until she stopped the car. Oh, the sounds coming out of his squished 6 year old head. :jd: . If you heard those sounds, you would know why "the Exorcist" didn't scare me. I'm laughing about it right now. Eric, please don't get too:stmad: at me and :spank: the crap out of me next time I see you, but I gave you the chance to tell it first.:moonu:

Im fairly new to Buicks..only had one since last March? Anyways, I could have cared less about cars when i was 16..i just wanted something to drive...Dad said hed buy me a truck(he ONLY owns Ford trucks) if i worked for him the summer..So i did, and at the end of the summer, he got me a beat up 72 Ford F100...lotta rust, not much of interior..brakes were pretty bad...drove REALLY bad on the highway. Needless to say i felt ripped off. But it was that built 390 under the hood that changed my mind..So, i ditched all my friends and started hanging out with car guys lol. well i taken a big likening to Chevelles..and my buddys sisters boyfriend..had a 72 Skylark, that we always talked about "damn that car would be sweet to fix up!" well, Unfortunatly, going down a backroad, a horse jumped a cattle gaurd, RIGHT in front of the old Ford..and that was it. So i worked up $1500...found an 85 Cutlass with a 350 Chevy it..was all black, and i liked GNs at the time...so it served its purpose for awhile, untill the tranny blew...then the next tranny blew, and then the next tranny blew(couldnt afford new, had to go to salvage yard) So, I throw the 4th TH350 in it..Parked it put $1500 on it, sick of messing with the car..wanted something reliable, with good gas mileage..

well. heres the fun part. my best friend has a 73 Duster hes rebuilding..SO he was driving a 4banger mustang..well he was sick of the slowness, and wanted my Cutlass..but has no money, well his sister with the Skylark, wants something newer. So, she trades him for the Mustang...And sense my buddy already has his muscle car, he traded the Skylark for the Cutlass.
Well. its no where as fast as the Duster, so im alittle dissapointed...But the first time i got on, turning on to my road, and left a tire mark atleast 1/4 long. I decided it wasnt SO bad.
So ive learned alot about buicks, and the fact way to many Chevelles at the track..I think ill just keep the Skylark.

UNfortunatly, Ive got to park the car, because im way to indebt right now to keep in on the road, and insurance, blah and tickets.
hopefully ill be driving again by spring. On the brighter side..ill have money to put into it.

    A Looong Time Ago

Buicks go back a long way in my family. My grandfather bought a 1937 Buick brand new and owned only Buicks until he died in the '80's. My grandfather worked nights so he slept during the day. One day when my Dad was about 12, some kid came by mouthing off how fast his car was. Long story short, my Dad jumped in the Buick and went down to the end of the road to race him. As they went by the house side-by-side, Dad saw grandpa standing on the front porch. Uh-oh. When he got back he got a good spanking, but then he asked my Dad ... did you win?

Anyways, Dad has bought new: '62 Skylark 215 4 spd, '65 Wildcat, '68 Wildcat, and a '71 Electra Limited that we restored and I still have. He also owned a '53 Buick Special that they brought me home from being born in the hospital in, and a '68 Skylark.

My first car was a '70 Olds Cutlass that eventually became my racecar. I sold it in 2000 after my Dad passed away and I bought his '72 GS350 which is now my Stage 2 car (racecar? pretty much.). I was always frustrated that the Buick guys were always faster than us Olds guys. So I came back.

    Have fun.

You may be new to this board but Ive heard that screenname somewhere before . Was it any of these?

Moparts, Moparstyle, C body dry dock, Mopar Alley? My ID on all those boards is YeloDart72

Could it be from an AOL Chatroom Where Im also known as YeloDart72

The First Generation Monte Carlo message board where im known as Mopar Man

BCA message forum .... Dans 77 Limited

Or a few of the Ho slotcar boards SCCBB or Wizard HO where I was known (before I got too aggravated and gave it up) as Wild Irishman.

Gonna drive me nuts till I figure this out.
