So last night I finally started work on the rear passenger window in my 72 Riv. The problem was the motor would go up and down but the window would stay in place, indicating that the window was no longer on track. If only it had been that easy...Not only was it not on track with the motor arm, the centering roller was also popped out of it's channel. Well, after about an hour of trying to get the center roller back in the channel, I decided it would be easier to remove the window and the entire channel piece inside the car. After I did that, getting the window to mate with the channel was easy. So then I reinstalled it all, bolted it down and wallah, the window now moves up and down. But, it was having a lot of difficulty going up and down and after cycling it a few times that damn center roller popped of of the holder. :af: I think the lower part of the channel piece needs to be adjusted inboard to allow the window to move more freely but I have no idea. Does anyone have pictures of instructions on how these were installed?
Do you have a factory 1972 Buick Service manual? It will show you pictures and diagrams of how the window mechanism works. I have a '72 manual and can take a picture of the pages if you'd like, though you will have to wait my camera is dead at the moment. THIS is what you need. It is the best tool to have with an old Buick. I've got 71-76 because they aren't that expensive and are a great tool to have for reference. Hope this helps.
Unfortunately, no I don't. I looked at the service manual on buick-riviera.com, but they didn't have anything on the windows. Any help would be great. If you know where I could buy one, that would be awesome. Thanks.
The service manual is not going to help you. Window mechanisms and all associated service will be in the Fisher body manual, not the chassis service manual.
My bad! HERE is the link to what you need. Jay was right. I have that too, just need to find some batteries.
Windows are a PITA even with the manual. I just put the door glass back in my 61 and my fore arms look like I got in a fight with a cat.
If you need help give me a call. I just done mine on my 73. if you look real close at the roller you might find that it is wore out. or the tabs at the top of the windo guild. (one side likes to break). but if you need a roller I have an n.o.s. extra one. Croy Harris 740-448-4773
Actually, you are 100% right. As I was trying to fish out the roller from the bottom of the fender, I noticed there were two pieces...it was then I realized why it had popped off. The roller had separated in two and I had only inserted in back into the channel with half of the roller in place. I'll send you a PM for that NOS one. These are the types of parts we need to get OPGI to start producing and selling.
Anyone have a quick link for window parts? I just got my drivers side back together yesterday and need a roller as well, the plastic one. These window changes are no slouch, you're right. Also, do 72 Centurion windows fit my 72 Riv? THere's a pair in the junk yard I might just pickup today just in case.
I believe nothing but Riv works with Riv.excepy maybe, Just Maybe Toronado. Same basic platforn as Riv.
After getting N.O.S roller from a board member, I realized that I had seen them already in various places. I though tit was just plastic piece I needed and didn't realize it came with the whole mount. you can find them on ebay and several other places. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971...2418919?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories I ended up popping the new plastic piece off the bolt and pressing it onto the existing one already attached to the window using a c-clamp. it's rolling like a champ now.
Awesome guys thanks. I went by and picked up those centurion windows and they measure exactly the same as the Riv, so my best guess is that they'll work. I suppose if I ever break one i'll find out in a hurry. Thanks for the parts links too!
