So when you say "done right", you need to decide if that's rebuilt so it runs well, or restored so it also looks brand new. Rebuilt could be done by a local old school mechanic if there are no issues that require different rods, etc. There are several vendors on here that also restore, Todd, Ken, Jim, Mark, etc.

If your engine is completely stock, then a local old school guy might be able to do it. There are several mods that should be done to any QJs. Fred taught me and I've never had a better running QJ! He can do anything from show to a basic rebuild with the mods I mentioned.

    Rebuilt

    Recalibrated

    Restored (cosmetically)

Three different things. The second and third are unlikely to be D-I-Y projects except by the extremists among us. A "rebuild" can be done by a talented high-school kid.

My #1 choice for Q-jet work.

Follow up service is second to none....I called Ken on a Sunday for advice, and he spent the time to walk me thru some adjustments.

Fast turn around and excellent work.

Ken is the only answer to this question. Send that carb off to him!

As others have mentioned there are a few great builders here. My experience is with Mark Northcutt @ quadrajetpower. Hes built a couple for me and have performed great. He has different levels of build as others and will want to know your engine specs

Jim at Tri Shield just did mine. It was a high mile carb and looked corroded and nasty. He rebuilt, re-bushed and re-plated virtually every part, as well as recalibrated it to my engine.

I was amazed at the quality and detail. I didn’t think it was possible for it to look so good. I’m a perfectionist and this exceeded my expectations!

Ken at Everyday Performance sold me outright a plated and calibrated 800 cfm big throat QJ for a little more than he would have charged to rebuild my existing 800. It is as responsive as a fuel injected engine. Plus he takes the time to email, talk or whatever if you have any issues. My friend and I have purchased carbs and rear ends and have been 100% pleased. The serve doesn't end after the sale is done because Ken gets the fact that a customer relationship is vital, which is becoming extinct these days.

Not saying the others recommended here are not as good, only that I used Everyday Performance for my carb.
