I Just thought i would ask what guys have planned , i'm planning on building a 470 roller motor....:beers2:
finish up the 12 bolt for my skylark with the disc brakes, have to make some parts up for a true bar since the ends i had put on a year ago were'nt installed square. pull the engine and see where the copper came from in my oil filter, i know some is from the thrust since it has .022" end play. install new cam and do some bowl work in the heads while it's apart also. new torque converter matched to the combo. send the dash pad out to Just dashes to get redone, new front global west control arms and f-body spindles and that's the buick. have to also tear down the camaro's motor, change the cam and mill the pistons down so i can run it on pump gas. then also start working on the frame swap for my 99 k2500. a lot of work you say? me too but i don't have any kids so that frees up time and $$$.
Should be picking up my 68 skylark from paint next weekend. Tore it down last year, welded up a few spots, had the seats rebuilt and done in black, new carpet, headliner, all sitting upstairs waiting to be installed. Should take me all winter to figure out how and where every part and bolt will go! Still need to paint the grill, headlight surrounds, and a few interior trim pieces. Excited and can't wait get her back
Gonna soon start tearing Capt American down and building the Regal. I'll have it on the track by mid January. I'm sure I will be here asking for advise and parts.
Gonna swap out the factory shortblock out of my skylark for a new TA alum 555. Will be interesting to see how the s/c set up responses to the extra cubes and rpm range.
Project Dirt Cheap: Disassemble Buick 455, clean and inspect, re-assemble with minimum machine work and minimum new parts. Home-brew valve job. Object is to see if I can cook on a budget. Long-block seemed to be in pretty good condition when the heads came off; but it's been inside a garbage bag on the engine stand for more than a year. May have rusted cylinder walls by now. Rear brake project: Remove 9.5" rear drums from 12-bolt axle, replace with 11" drums. Currently bead-blasting drums, backing plates, etc. Discovering that everything is way more rusted than I'd prefer. Intend to install modern serpentine belt system along with accessories on a SBC "A" body project; part of that will also involve the Jeep Grand Cherokee steering box upgrade. Overhaul several core carbs that have been collecting dust. I've got three or four transmissions that should get freshened and sold...the 400s are easy, I've never been into a 700 but I guess I'm about to learn. There's a 4T60E in the Lumina that popped last summer, too. Not looking forward to that one.
I also have to swap out my full length TA headers for some shorties , the car is too low now with the drop springs.I'm going to run a full three inch exhaust with spintech mufflers ..
How much drop do you have on the springs? I have 2" lowering springs on my 69 Skylark and was thinking of the TA shortys...but if I can use long tubes...ray:
I just sold all of my 350 parts i was going to use, and am going to install a 455 in the car I believe ill be happier with the results, and i think id like to do something resembling what could have been had the factory ever built a big block GS Apollo on 1973! I plan to make it look as stock and factory installed as possible, with correct emblems, iron intake and exh, down to correct manifold numbers for that year as well as all factory looking options for any GS BB car Ive already started building a 455 for it based off a late 72/early 73 block w stb bore 10.1 pistons zero decked-true 10.1-1 compression Ported stage 1 heads w stainless valves, dual springs etc cam is 230 ish at 050 520 lift ported 73 intake with plenum and runner mods ported exh manifolds 800 cfm q jet points distributor modified w pertrnox 3 system(already in car) will leave my th350 for now but add a 3500 stall i already have already has 3.73 rear gears blacked out grill w gs emblems stage 1 fender emblems correct gs rear valance emblems Would have been a whole lot easier to leave it a small block car, but hey ,thats no fun p will try to post up progress pics as i go along over the winter months Thanks
Buick: Upgraded fuel pump. New axles or whole rear end. Get the heads ported. New roller cam grind. Roller Rockers. Interior Carpet and maybe re-vamp the dash cluster with a digital one. Firebird: Yank the 400 engine out (Friday?) Assemble a throw together OHC Pontiac engine. Build an intake and headers for said engine. Re-wire car for EFI and worn out/hacked OE harness. It'll be the first time in a lot of years I had more than one car down with the engine out. At least I still have the Thunderbird and Centurion to roll around in when the weather is decent.
I just had my old 464 freshened up to go in my 66 Skylark thanks to Finishline. It will be dressed to look completely stock right down to the Jim Rodgers ported exhaust manifold. Turbo400 and Stage3 converter thanks to Tri Shield. 8.2 355 posi thanks to James Weinman and Jim Mitschke. Once the mechanical portion is done we are going to pull the bench seat and carpet out and go back with fresh carpet, door panels, bucket seats and center console w/tach.
Think I will put a 455 sticker on my 350 GS air cleaner:Brow: Most won't know the diference and lets face it, it looks cooooler
i have a three inch drop with my 70 and TA full length headers. the car is just way too low, the headers hit entering pretty much any parking lot . The headers are about an inch and a half off the ground at the collector . You could probably get away with it with a two inch drop but if i was you i would go with the shorties... ---------- Post added at 08:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:27 PM ---------- And is much cheaper...lol
objective 1 is to get the body work done and the car painted- should be very achievable. Objective 2 is to get the 3.23 posi built, I have all the parts just need to throw em in,and hopefully a new 400 tranny with a shift kit. Louie
Too much! I'm tearing out the axle and torque tube from the '53 for new bearings and seals, new seat covers on the Corvair, and I'm buying a lightly used rebuilt 302 to replaced my Mustang's fragged 289. A local guy's upgrading to a stroker small block, so I'm buying his current engine when he tears it out, probably in March.
