It's been a long time since I posted anything of substance on here.Thought you all may be interested in what started off as a "motor freshening"! It has led to a bit more than that.I am now replacing the whole of my drivetrain too! Many heartfelt thanks to Chris Skaling (buicksstage1), and a thank you also to Glen Oliver and Bill Arseneau. It will be awhile before all is back together but all parts are rounded up,machining is almost done-engine assembly will start in a day or two.Chris will provide particulars of an upcoming dyno session.Hopefully it will show some good numbers. The dyno is the most conservative one in North America(an old Stuska).Even the full-race Hemis struggle to get to the mid 900s on itThe motor is going to be a street motor at heart. Changes include a blueprinted TA cover, new style water pump, ported SP-1,totally re-done and flowed(by Chris) Stage 2 SE heads, the best in rods(TA),their deep sump pan and new TA(38 over) forged pistons. The cam is a Scott Brown(milder than the old Hemi-Killer I did have). The Bigs 950 may be replaced-yet to be seen.
The Switch-Pitch is being replaced by a 9.5" convertor..The T-400 is new as well.Going with a GV Overdrive to a 9" Moser rear with 3.50 gears.Been collecting a few of these parts for some time now-others out of absolute necessity without the luxury of time and planning!.The fuel system will be revamped as well.An ambitious and far from cheap project, but I'm really getting excited about it all.Can hardly wait to get kicked off the strip!
Anyone else have a project grow by leaps and bounds-seemingly without end??
    Cheers,
    Rod

Man sounds awesome I'm excited for you. Yeah the scope can quickly grow fast depending on your goal. Keep us poated on the progress.and be patient when you start shaking things out at the track. There's a lot of little things to perfect in order.to make the catalog of go fast parts work together in unison. Don't get frustrated if it doesn't run the number first ime out. Diagnose simple to complex not the other way around (I'm guilty of coming up with wild theories about why the car is a half second slow but usually.it's the simple stuff.you asaumed was right)

ugh, it's like my truck. Just found a leaking break line that I may have to drop the gas tank to get to, why not replace the fuel filter while I'm at it, well might as well replace the rear drum bleeders.......

of course your's sounds a lot better! :3gears:

... And there goes another of the "308" gang off into the sunset

Wishing you all the best Rod. Just curious why you aren't using JW's formula for a 470 build up with the rods and slugs he used for Larry's build ? Heck, why not the roller setup too ?

Well Alan you got to admit we milked that" 308 "thing for all it was worth!!! Time for a wee bit more motivation-it's on the bucket list somewhere!! No good reason why we went with the TA slugs and rods-simply they are tried and true(and were easily available). As to the roller cam-probably missing out on a bit there, although Scott Brown may have come up with something pretty good.Flat tappet is cheaper, but after the huge expenditures otherwise involved it really is not a factor.Let's just say it's old school(and I'm a cheap SOB)!!!Besides, youse gots to keep a reason to tear the thing down again, right? All the best to you too!
Thanks for the comments Clanceman and Cowboy .
    Cheers,
    Rod

Because the CS's formula is going to be just fine:grin: Larrys collecting his big pension now, Rod is still paying for his X wives so no roller cam for him:shock:

I will post the flow sheet. By the way Rod, the deck is at Zero already. There is my .095 deck heigh from before......

Hi Chris - wasn't "challenging" the CS formula, but I know JW has hit on a good rod/slug combo for blocks that haven't been zero-decked already

... but I guess that point is moot with your last statement.

Rod - I'll be putting a GV into either BigRed or Sporty this winter. Please keep us updated on how it works with your gearing choice in the 9". I'm either going that route or a Strange S60

Actually I said only change one thing at a time, but that ONLY applies to tuning for max power at the drag strip or dyno. Since I know that is not what you meant, go enjoy the fruit of your labor.

The combustion chambers are 61 cc's and I need 70 cc's to get the compression down to 10.25:1 When your removing 9 cc's it looks like a lot of material so I put 9cc's into a glass and it sure doesn't look like much......
