Anyone running an AED 1000 HO carb?reason i`m asking is because i cannot adjust this carb for sh..?has anyone had any issues with theirs? Thanks
I have one. Bolted it on and that was that. No adjustments necessary in my case. Call them George. They are very helpful on the phone, and they stand behind their product.
Yea i spoke to John i`m gonna send it back,it sounds like it may have an internal vacuum leak or something,it doesnt wanna idle under 1050 rpms and the engine sounds like its loaded up every time i run it,i even got the timing up to 20* thinking it might`ve needed more initial. Thanks
I have one. I had trouble with the idle at first but I'm running a 308s cam. I didn't have enough timing. I locked the timing @ 34* and it now it will idle @950 in gear and all 4 idle screws 2.25 turns out. Assuming your float level is right, you may want to check the needle and seat. I had a small piece of metal get caught between the needle and seat on mine. I have no idea where it came from. The needle and seat comes right out with a 5/8 wrench in about 5 seconds with the carb on the engine and bowls still on the carb. It could be front or back but front bowl is much more likely.
It's possible. I asked here when I had the problem and a few guys said the same thing, lock it at 34*. One nice thing for you with the manual trans, you can idle it down and not have to worry about the load it's going to see when you put it in drive. Mine idles 1200-1300 in neutral to get 950 in drive. I like the way it sounds at 950 way better than 1300. You could probably idle down to 750. That'll sound badass :TU: You also wouldn't need to turn as much out on the idle screws. I'd guess around 1.75 turns out.
Andy,do you have some kind timing control?do you have problems starting the engine when hot with so much timing? Thanks
You went with the 510 cam didn't you? if yes then definitely lock out the timing. at the 30* range I didn't get mine to idle right without doing that. runs way better with a constant amount of timing. I also have a msd retard module that has start mode thqat retards the timing as much as you set it for until like 600 or 800 rpm. Starts fine with 11.1:1, battery in the trunk, and jamie's mini starter. I intitially couldn't get it to start when I put it together. Mike G. told me i need more advance, and to find the lightest stretched springs I could get. fired right up. Eventually bob M told me to lock it. Runs fine on the street, with a 3 core radiator and electric fan.
The other thing that leads me to beleive it may be the carb or internal vacuum leak is when i tap the gas the rpms do not come down immedately, they linger before they come down?? Thanks
what do you have for a distributor? i had an hei before and just had the vac advance disconected and it would do the same thing after just tapping the gas, like the advance mechanism was starting to move some. once i hooked the vac back up it wouldn't do that any more. then i just got an msd distributor and was all set. some 1 ton chevy trucks didn't have a vac advance and there was some sort of locking tab that went in place of the canister to hold everthing still.
no man she fires right up every time with no retard and a stock starter. It's a true 10.7:1 compression. I'm guessing the 55* of overlap of the 308s is what allows it to start. Some guys need the retard, I guess I'm lucky.
