Time to make the factory (steel) rims on the GN shine again. Good shape, but a rechrome (and a repaint if they do that too) would be nice. Where do I go? -- Steve
Steve: I talked to Tom at Specialty Wheels in Oregon about doing my GN wheels several years ago, I haven't had them done yet. When he widened my 15 x 7 rallye's for the GS to 15 x 8 the price was around $140 ea. And the GN wheels were similar if I remember.
Steve Check with gbodyparts.com I know he offered a srevice to rechrome and, or widen your stock wheels.
I think if you keep your eye on for sale ads on the GN sites, or post a parts wanted advert you could find some nice ones for sale less than the cost of upgrading yours. That also leaves you your old set to either sell or use for other purposes like a couple different pairs for front and back at the track - if you're so inclined. I bought an extra set about a year ago, I don't remember for sure but I think it was only about $300 for the set of four. Nice chrome, just need paint touch up. You know, they made about 50K GNs in 87, and a large number of people have changed their wheels. They aren't hard to find.
Mike Buick built around 30K total turbo regals in 87 includes GN,Turbo T and GNX. GN production accounted for a hair over 20 thousand cars not 50K Get wheels rechromed to preserve correct date code of your original wheels to your particular GN.
