This is our local and top notch. Thank you veterans and your families... https://www.fisherhouse.org/
https://www.vetsroll.org/ My dad was a WWII vet, a bomber pilot. I wish he were still here to experience this but it's an incredible experience for those who still are.
I can't believe anyone in there right mind would donate any money or goods to the Salvation army. They are by far the biggest bigoted organization out there! Keith
Local food bank is probably my most consistent one I donate to. If a kid makes the effort to come to my front door (not the parents) and ask me to buy something for their fundraiser for thier group/sport I have no issue in buying something.
I don't want this tread to get out of hand. I feel sure it could very quickly. I will delete this if it goes in a negative direction. This thread is about Organizations you like to donate to and I would like this to stay on a positive note.
Do your research on a charity prior to giving - the fisher house noted above ranks very high with 91% of donations spent on actual programs. https://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=7585 Wounded warrior with ranks much lower with only 71% spent on actual programs. They have a much higher admin and advertising cost. https://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=12842
I would also like to point out the Gary Sinise Foundation in regards to veteran-centric charities. He and his group really do a nice job from all I've seen and heard. https://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=17612
Good facts to know M1garand but Who do you donate to and why ? I am not interested in bashing ones that are not good I am interested in hearing about ones that members like to donate to. We could all bash tons of charities for things many do that we don't agree with. I want to know the good ones or at least who you like and why. Thank you
Here in Minneapolis, we had that dumb ass who tossed the boy off the third floor in Mall of America. They had a Go Fund Me set up. He's hanging in there with all the surgeries and rehab he is going through. But we've funneled some monies their way to assist with their daily expenses. We also forward some monies to German Shepherd rescues to assist with military dogs for vets, police and general animals in the shelters.
It was not intended to be a bash it was more along the lines of education so that folks make the best decision for their dollars. United Way Lake County, IL.
Regardless of what some might think of certain charities, I focus on the work done within my community. It doesn't matter whether they're a well known national organization, or a smaller local one. When it comes to the homeless, the hungry, and those simply going through difficult times, it's important to remember those people are human beings. Both charities I named provide hot meals and shelter for those less fortunate. It's also important to realize it gets stupid cold here during the winter months. Anybody willing to volunteer to spend a few consecutive nights outdoors, sleeping in an alley when it's -25 F. How about during hot summers with no potable water to drink? Many charities are front and centre providing these things. I can easily look past any real, or perceived shortcomings.
I don't have much extra money to give but I do help out by volunteering through local groups doing minor home repairs or whatnot for the people that can't do for themselves. I have been blessed with knowledge and skills and I figure its not all for me but for the benefit of others as well.
