Hey Bill, Aviation has the same true/variation issue. Runways are numbered by their relation to the magnetic variation in their area, therefore runway 24 in say Albuquerque will not be exactly aligned with runway 24 in Boston.
240* magnetic and 60* reciprocal correct? So how do you correct for compass deviation? I'd have thought the runways were True and not magnetic just for that reason. Hmm.... Aside from the on board compass, whats the device (the term eludes me) that you push a button and the card automatically zeros? ADF? ws

Thats true!..same way our cyclones twirl and your hurricanes twirl the way your water goes down the plughole. Its all the earths magnetic field. thats why engines dyno higher in the northern Hemisphere is should that be Buicksphere here!
