I am considering a custom grind for my `73 small valve 0.030" over 455.

    Here are the dirty details:
I have a `72 Skylark that weights ~3950 wet with driver. I've go 3.42 gear with 27.25 diameter Drag Radials (275/60-15). Stall converter has ~2800 stall, can foot brake to ~2600 before it spins. Compression is 10.07:1 and am running a SP-1, 4 hole spacer and 800 cfm Q-Jet. Using MT/Scavenger headers with 3" mandral bent X-pipe and tail pipes and am using Dynomax large case mufflers. TH-350 transmission, shits at ~5800 rpm's. Cranking compression is 170 psi. average. Current cam is TA-413 installed at 107 ICL (vs 109). Rockers are TA rollers w/1.6 ratio. I have never had detination problems even on regular fuel. Timing is currently all in by 1400 rpm with initial at 25 and total at 34. I am still running vacuum advance with Crane adjustable canister and custom made stop. The heads are 70 cc's and the pistons are .005 below deck. Piston reliefs are 24.5 cc's and head gasket is .032" compressed. The standard small valve heads were ported by me, first port job ever :Do No: , here are the flow numbers (@28" and no pipe).

    Lift Int./Exh.
    .100" 64.0/57.9
    .200" 137.7/100.8
    .300" 196.2/128.7
    .400" 242.2/146.7
    .500" 256.3/156.1
    .600" 248.8/166.9

I have power brakes and AC. Current vacuum is ~12.5 psi at 900 rpm's. I want to keep it streetable but I only drive it for fun, I probably make it to the strip five times a year. Feel free to PM or respond here, as always comments welcome....Thanks!

For your combination the cam you have is about right. With no gear and as heavy as it is any more duration and it would be a slug at stoplite acceleration. What you could do is go with a smaller cam with faster ramps and have more bottom end and keep the top end you have already. You can call us and we would be happy to help design a custom cam.

Rick, that's along the lines I was thinking...I'll drop you a line later today.

It does what at 5800 rpms?

You say the car "shits" at 5800 rpm's...
I thought only mopars did that... :Do No: :Brow:

I modified the governer weights (lightend them), to get the higher shift points. It used to shift at ~5000. It is a easy... free modification! You just have to go through some trial and error until you get it where you want it. There is a kit that you can order as well but you really don't need it (sometimes these kits are incorrect).

I wanted consistantcy and did not want to worry about shift errors (I've got colum shift, TH-350).
