Man I hate to say it but it reminded me of the good old days! I remember the 87 Shootouts. That is when I started to really pay attention. I have it on tape somewhere. Looks like they weren't all wearing factory tires back then? I remember Mino being the guy to beat, but I sure did enjoy seeing Bob K. in that first run:gp: KID
Wow, cool stuff! Where was that? Looks like an awesome track/setting. Is it still around? Gotta say, the cars definitely look a lot "tuffer" with some fatter rubber on the rear. The Centerlines (and did I see slicks?) might be takin' it too far, but I could live with some fatter rear tires on the stock wheels. Just sayin'...
Yah, it goes downhill towards the finish line then back up. They forgot to bring the level the day they paved the track.
According to what I have read, the city of Salem was trying to buy it for an industrial park, but they were planning on it still operating till they actually needed the land for expansion. Their web site is still up and they have plans for 2010. http://www.quakercityraceway.com/
I was at that race with my dad and Rob Ross. Funny seeing Chuck Green and Dan Jenson in the video with the interview. I think we were allowed to use M&H tires back then.
  When we ran there, lotsa people did the burnout on the hill climbing up to the strip (think the track would have been more level if it wasn't so high?). By the time you levelled off, you were about 20 feet over the starting line.... They had this guy up there they lovingly called the "Starter Nazi" that got really pissed everytime someone did it (I thought Karkashian and he were going to get down and dirty his first run....   The photographer took a pic of me about 6 feet over the line with him showing me where it is, so I had it put on a mouse pad. Looking at it right now! Nice track, though... At Byron (Illinois) you see two huge cooling towers on the horizon as you sit there waiting for the tree to come down. Kind of distracts you.....right out ofm Dr Strangelove...
