im looking into getting some new white wall tires for a 1967 lesabre 4dr.

what are the difference in the number representing?

    165r15
    185/75r15
    205/75r15

im going for a custom look so maybe a thicker white wall like 2.25in. I currently run 175/75r14s but im going for a new look.

i want to do something like this

your tires, 175r75 are way too small. u should be looking for 205r75 tires. your car probably came from the factory with 7.75 or 8.25 x 15" tires. check with coker tires www.cokertire.com

To answer your question: The first number is the tread width of the tire in millimeters, the second number is the height of the sidewall as a percentage of the tire width, and the last number is obviously the wheel diameter in inches.

This site has a pretty decent tire size calculator. You can also compare sizes and what they do to your speedometer readings.

If you are looking for Wide White radials, Kelsey tire has brand new design Wide Whites made by Goodyear here in the US. Go to www.kelseytire.com to look at them and then contact me if you are interested in buying them.:TU:

As an FYI, that size is the orignial equipment size for VW Beetles. They normally fit in a 3"-4" wide wheel. The bottom line is that it would be totally unsafe. God forbid you had to make a evasive manuver or stop suddenly. You or the guy you slam into are going to be in big trouble. Just make sure you up your insurance policy and have a good lawyer before you put those on.

    really that bad?

i thought because im going back UP to 15s that it should be sager and better ride.

Is it because of the size of the tire 165 that is un-safe?

Its pretty easy. Put the right size tire on it in a wide white.

The correct size tire is listed on a sticker in your glove box or in the owners manual. What size is on the car now? Its printed on the side of the tire.

That size is incredibly small. Its basically the same size as a Ford Escort.

I think your having problems visualizing the size differences. Not only is that size way thinner, but its much shorter as well. A 205/75-15 is a hair over 27" tall, while a 17/75-14 is 24" tall.

Once you buy them and try installing them, you'll figure out what we're talking about.

Doesnt you car have a rod knock anyway?

yea it does. and im taking care of the knock in a week or so. overhauling the engine. I have a deal on tires too. so might just kill two birds at once.
