When I floor it, I mucho white smoke behind me. I never see it smoke at any other time. Is that rings, valve seals, or what? Thanx.
Everyone gets upset when they see "white smoke" coming out of the exhaust. A head gasket leak is unmistakeable. You can smell the antifreeze in the exhaust. Water vapor in the exhaust when the engine is cold is normal. If don't regularly beat on the car, and floor it, you may be seeing carbon buildup, or it may be a little oil. Most cars will blow something out when you nail them. Relax, it's nothing.
I have been driving it to work for a few days while. It must be eating a tad of oil, because it is low today. The motor is not new. It runs very cool and does not lose any water. What are the symptoms of valve seals vs rings? Thanx guys.
how's your tranny fluid? Sounds like you might be pulling transmission fluid into the intake. Maybe the modulator valve has a bad diaphram.
Thanx guys. It smells like engine oil, and I have a full manual 4l80e which has no modulator. It does have a vacuum line going to the carb, though. Thanx.
For instance, you sit at a idle for awhile, then accelerate, see smoke....it's rings. You decelerate down a hill, see smoke....it's valve guides. Gene
It definetly does not do either of those. I am learning how to ID the symptoms of rings or seals, though. Only under full throttle does it happen. Thanx Gene.
White Smoke or light gray is a fuel lean condition, blue to light blue is oil. valve seals will smoke on start up and idling or deaccelaration. rings smoke under load but it will be blue.
Thanx Fastang, more good info. I don't know what is going on, today, I floored it on an on-ramp, it did not smoke at all. What the?
