Well...Since I am used to not having any extra cash laying around and the fact that I build everything on and in my cars now anyways,I will have to say the ability to do my work myself.I don't do the painting or bodywork due to the fact my lungs can't take it,but everything else I do myself.Soon I will attempt to do a headliner carpet installation in my 70 car.It takes awhile to get cars done but I have the satisfaction of knowing I did something myself.

It would depend. There are certain things that You couldn't pay me to do, so I don't mind paying somebody else. You know the jobs. Flat on you back with rust in your eye in the dead of winter/height of summer, arguing with wrench and a rusty bolt with a couple of bloody knuckles saying to yourself "Why do I enjoy doing this?" I'll gladly pay somebody to do it. But on the Whole, I'd go with the ability.

Id rather have the ability to say " I BUILT IT" anyone with enough money can pay someone to build anything they want, but what do you have. although it may be cool i still think saying i built it is much better.

    Hmmm

I think you need ability (I have the ability) and the means, so I'll go with the FAT wad of cash in the pocket. :bglasses:

I'd like to have the green to start with a non-rusty car and the ability to build on that base...

I'll try anything once, twice if I like it.

So if it's rust free, and the brass is falling outta my pocket, :Brow: I'll build it(and maybe they'll come).

BTW, a fully equipped shop would be a prerequisite.

Having alot of the ability too, I would say believe it or not MONEY! Im one of those that seems to think theres not enough time in a day, and if I can pay to have something done that will have a superior finished product in less time, thats a quality spend in my eyes. For instance the bare frame..... Do I want to spend the countless hours with a wire brush and die grinder, or sandblast and have to worry about all the time to clean up,( I know you guys that have sandblasted know what Im talking about!) ......Or drop off the frame, have it sand blasted and powdercoated?

I am a FIRM believer you have to put a dollar figure on what your time is worth to you........ I say 40-50 dollars an hour for instance. If it took me 30 hours to clean and paint a frame verses 600-800 for someone else to do it (sandblast and coat) I will go the route of what is more economical and time efficient in my mind. And while the example frame is being done, I can prep suspension pieces. Each to there own. Thats just my take.

I like the idea of knowing how to do everything, and I wouldn't mind taking a few years to "do" my car. But just cashing off a 30k $ car sounds nice too. If I had a neighbor who had the same model car as me and we were both working on them and we were good friends, then I'd say build it myself, cause then it be really fun. I don't know too much about fixing things, it's a bit trial and error at the moment, but it feels good to learn something new almost every day. There's a lot of people here in Hollywood who pay $ for older cars and just drive them around with their sunglasses on, I don't really care, but I don't think they ever get to enjoy the part where you make a car into what you decide to make it into.

I'm not sure you can do it now without starting a New Topic. The Poll option will be down at the bottom after you click 'New Thread'.

Try that, then direct everyone from here over to there.

Give me the cash. I hate working on cars. I like driving them. Having a half done car sitting in the driveway does nothing for me. I like the idea of going to the track with my car, not skinning my knuckles at home working on it.
