Which whole rear axles will interchange with the 66 Wildcat

Need some almighty rear axle advice.

I got myself a 66 Wildcat, and it's a possibility that the rear axle is no good (at least the outer bearing on the driver's side isn't), and I was wondering if anyone knows which other models/years rear axles would interchange with this one. I'm talking my axle out, in with a donor replacement.

It's at the end of this thread that we are currently discussing this.

There is a 68/69 Electra in the yard at the moment, could that be something?

    Any help is greatly appreciated

1966-67 6000, 8000 and 9000 series cars which translates to Wildcats, Electras and Rivieras.

The same series cars are grouped for this part from 1968-70 but have their own part number that is not the same as 66-67.

I take it this means that those axle housings should be identical and interchange. I've heard something about the 66 being a one year only deal because of a particular bearing design. Anyone that can confirm?

Different part number group.. hmmmm... Could they still interchange, because the housing dimensions are the same, but some other internal carrier design change has them listed as a different group number?

    Questions.. questions..

The part number differences are for the axle shafts themselves and not any carriers or bearings.

For for the cars I listed 1966 -67 shaft are the same part number .

For the same cars 1968-70 shafts are the same part number.

But 1966-67 shafts are not the same part numbers as 1968-70 shafts.

I don't think the Wildcat uses a panhard bar, does it? The Riv and Electra do (at least the 68 - 70 do).

I don't think an entire 225 or Riv rear will bolt in. Can anyone confirm this?

The Wildcat does not have the panhard bar, neither does the 68/69 Electra in the yard. They both have upper and lower control arms. Could that bar only have been for the Rivs?

The panhard bar is exclusive to the Riv because it only has one upper control arm, thus nothing to control lateral movement but the panhard.

Electra/Wildcat should be common. LeSabre is an odd duck and should be dismissed. Keep in mind my experience is limited to 1967 swaps between Electra & Wildcat.

I just bought a rusty but good running '67 Riviera parts car today and won't be using the rear. It has a 10 bolt cover. I could relieve it of the axles.
