Hi Guys, need some opinions. Am ready to install the foil backed carpet underlay instead of the heavy tar paper stuff the factory installed. In all the tv shows you see the foil placed to the inside of the car. When I stripped my 65 Rivi , it had two peices in each front floorboard installed foil side up. But if you read the instrustions from the makers , they say to install the foil towards the heat, which I would say that means glue the foil to the floorboard. I talked with the guy I bought it from and he said that is correct. He said he too, had seen them installed both ways and called the manufactor ,and they said install it foil to floorboard. Was told the tv folks do it foil up just because it makes a better looking job for tv. Anyone care to comment....................J

I agree with the manufacturer. How can you not?! They make the product. But think about it. The purpose of the foil it to reflect heat. That's why they use foil instead of anything else. It's your "first line of defense". Remember, TV shows also do a complete engine build in 30 minutes!

Install it foil side down for max. effectiveness.
In addition, esp if you are running headers, go to Lowes and buy a roll of "waterheater blanket", found in the insulation section. It is silver foil and has small air pockets like bubble wrap, only way more durable. It cuts easily w/scissors, molds to contours,is waterproof [think spills etc getting into your jute padding causing rust to floorboards and musty odor] and REALLY cools and quiets down your ride. Use in place of jute and cover the entire floor, taping all seams with aluminum foil tape. No need to glue it down - just lay the carpet over the top. Trust me, you'll be glad you did. :TU:
