Which way round do my upper control arms go?

425 Dual Quad Restoring 65 'Lark - help

    Gents,

I'm doing a B Body disc brake swap - and the associaed tubular upper cntrol arms.
The arms bind on the suspension mounting hat at the rear side of the arms on full suspension extension [which isn't much travel BTW]. I have about a quarter of an inch spacing between the arm and the hat at the front.

I had to turn over the offset shafts to even get them on over the mounting bolts. and stop binding on the hat.

Methinks I've put them on the wrong side. but I've compared them with the old ones [which of course I kept as a reference] but I don't think so. The suspension looks like it lines up OK with the lower arms. Before I pull them off and swap them round does anyone have a bird's eye shot of tubular suspension arms - taken from the top so I can see whether the shorter arm goes at the front or back of it it is the longer, more kinked arm.

    Please help!!

    regards & thanks
    Nick :)

    Nick,

I can send you picture over email if you want. I took it yesterday for you but it's too big to send on the V8 BB.

Hey Nick, Is this a 65 Skylark you are asking about? If so...it's your lucky day! I have one in my garage in pieces (still working on it when I can) I've been on this car, on and off for a long time. I can take pics and answer most questions you may have any time. I have the 300 stock engine so we differ there but, it's a 2 door post body 65. And best of all!....it's all apart or was at one point. Here are some semi-recent pics. If you scroll down you will see the control arms in place. This is pretty much the state of my 65 as it is now.

    Guys,

Hi - I thought I posted a reply to this saying it was all solved but I don't seem to see it here now. Never mind!

Well all is solved. I have them on the right way round. Thanks to Gary [NOTNSS] and NickDFX for the pics. Nice tire dance Nick!

One thing I did notice is that the larger shim pack is to the rear side of the A Arm on both Gary's and Nick's whereas on mine it was to the front on the original arms. This may be the cause of my problem since this is the point at which it is rubbing on the frame mount. Maybe when I get is all aligned I'll need more shims on the rear and this will move the point where it is rubbing away from the frame mount.

By the way this post seems to have a 'tick'. What is this about and is it good?

    Thanks all! :3gears:

    best regards
    Nick
