I was cleaning up in my garage and found a couple of sets of old stock 455 springs that were on some '70 cores that I had. Should I keep these to break in a new motor with(308S)?

    break in

Just remove the inners on the dual springs that came with the cam for break in.Keep the RPM 1600 to 1800 for 20 mins.I made a tool for spring removal on car,I used a stamp steel rocker and cut out the spring side so there is 2 tabs with a hole to get at the keepers then used a old head bolt for the handle, the head of the bolt fits nicely in the other side of the rocker then weld it together then slip a pipe over the head for the handle. Just use a old shaft and bolt it on to the head. I have been using mine for years.Chris

NO!! The coils will bind, those stock springs will stack at ~.450" lift!!

    springs

Throw the stock springs in the scrap pile, there just a single spring with a dampner,I hope there no misunderstanding here, you can't remove something that's NOT THERE.Chris
