Which valve guide seals to use?

I am running a SBB w/ a Poston GS 114 cam and stock rockers.
I am concerned that the recess in the valve stem that's just below the keeper ends up being below the umbrella seal on the valve guide. I am also ruinning the TA "upgrade" valve springs. The inner valve spring appears to clear the Sealed Power brand umbrella seals I am using.

I just tried to order some new seals and they ended up being exactly the same.

I just can't seem to get any information on anything better in the way of seals. And I am worried about the leakage caused by the possible ptoblem w/ the recess in the stock valve.

What about the Perfect Circle stuff? Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance,

I'm using the ones that came in the fellpro kit and have never heard of any other options other than stock replacement.

By recess do you mean the valve stem tapers thinner?

Are the heads off the car? If they are you can buy a tool to cut down the guides and run smaller teflon seals.

I don't know if the later Rover seals would be of any use.

I'll dig out a picture and the dimenions for you.

Re: the valve stem. Yes, it does taper inward just below the valve keeper.
I have heard that the V6 valve stem has this feature. I don't have the heads off at this time.

Can these smaller valve seals be installed without removing the heads? Does anyone have a source for these seals?

If I have to take the heads off, I'd like to install larger intake valves. What's the biggest intake I can install? Since the bore is so small, will the edge of the bore on the cylinder block require any machining when using a bigger valve? I've heard about using 1.94 intake valves from a SBC. However, most SBC valves are only 11/16" whereas Buick valves are 3/8".

    Thanks again, for the replies!

PS. Did I mention that this SBB is installed in a 1976 Buick Skyhawk!!

Yes KS, I for one am very interested in your Skyhawk SBB project.

I will have one one of these days....

You can replace the valve seals using a spring compressor tool and removing the springs. Sounds like the V6 seal may work for you.

Regarding the larger cheby valves, talk to Jim B at PAE performance because he knows about this mod. I'm not sure if he has done it but he said it was possible with a bit of extra time/$. I'd get porting done if your going to the trouble of customizing valves.

Toss on some roller rockers and your laughing, just hope the wife doesn't find the receipts...
