Working on a 67 skylark and had the question asked of me. I would have to climb up into the attic to find it all, drag it down and figure out what it is made from. Or...... You wizards and geniuses out there might just know this off hand. Vinyl top molding that goes around the rear sail panels, SS or Alum? Drip edge molding, SS or Alum? Windshield trim, SS or Alum? ( I think SS but not sure) Back window trim, SS or Alum? (I think SS but not sure)
I'll go out on a limb and say both. Someone can tell us why (deluxe vs standard?), but I've bought both by mistake. You want the stainless because it can be polished. The aluminium was anodized and would have to be re-anodized.
I climbed up and drug stuff out into a pile. It sure feels like the drip edge and vinyl top molding are aluminum. Just really light and sound different than the windshield molding when tapped.
Well, I have 66's, 67 should be mostly the same. Windshield and rear window moldings are stainless. Drip rail varies, My hardtops have stainless, my Special with vinyl top is anodized alum. Unsure if my 66 GS w/vinyl was stainless or alum, I'll have to check. Vinyl top moldings at the belt are anodized alum, convertibles (Edit: belt reveal) are stainless. If you refer to the Ames (GTO) catalog repos, belt reveal moldings for verts are stainless, hardtops are alum for doors and rear qtrs.
I have some windshield mouldings that are anodized alum. I was told they could be either, but maybe they came from a chevy? My drip rails are alum. I have a special wagon. Good call Sean - the SS alloy is magnetic! I just double checked.

BUICK letters front and rear are cast and chromed. Side gill panels are die cast, chromed and painted. That seems to be the total of all shiny metal trim pieces that I have laid hands on and confirmed material.
Anybody have a good method of removing all the old weather strip adessive and stuck foam rubber from the roof rail stainless trim? I squirted some 3m adhesive remover and it didn't do much.
Use a plastic scraper to get the majority of it off, then something like lacquer thinner or diesel fuel to get the rest off.
Goo Gone and Lacquer thinner softened up everything real well and then some 0000 steel wool. Oh, and some plastic razor blades too. Who knew that existed.
