Ok, if you want to run 87 octane that's fine but there ARE better cams to run than the comp 268. For a mere around $20 more, Scott Brown can have a custom ground for your car's combo that would make that 268 look like a punk if you raced yourself! Don't skimp on the port work either, there was a sbb 370 with around 8.5:1 that made 430 HP with a Poston 114 IIRC before the boost, so there is that cam that would also be WAY better than the comp 268. With 15 less cubes HP wouldn't be down much if you went with a cam like that one. The Crower level 2 cam is also a WAY better choice than the Comp 268 as well. The Comp 268 is a sbc lobe design that is ground on the sbb cam core. So its not going to be good as the ones mentioned that were actually designed for the flow characteristics of the sbb 350's heads. That's fine if in you want to run low compression, just don't handicap yourself with that Comp 268 cam. Some people like it, yourself for example, but that's probably because they don't have anything to compare it with except for a worn out factory cam. GL Derek
My heads are bone stock, aside from a three angle valve job. Do you think a novice like me should try my hand at porting, or is it best left to the professionals? Also, no shops in my area really work on Buick anything. I was surprised to even see a few Pontiac motors in their shop. It's all Chevy and Ford here. Or is it just a matter of porting is porting?
Actually, since my old setup worked so well, as I said I think I'll just redo the setup I had, and then build up a kickass 350 with those new fangled aluminum heads I've been hearing about. I've always wanted an apollo, I might put it in that. Or hell, I can always take my motor back out, beef up that Th350, deck my block, put those alum heads and intake on it with headers and make some real power.
For sure you can port your heads yourself, the trick with being a beginner is to not get carried away. I just posted in another thread some porting tricks along with some others advise, I'll see if I can find that thread and post a link for you. Derek

And if you start your own thread you get even more help. That stroker engine I referenced a 16 year old kid did his own first time porting and his engine made 430 HP!!I'll see if in I can find that thread, use to have it saved to my confuser but since the "upgrade" that link doesn't work anymore! The search engine worked pretty good! Here is the link to the sbb 370 stroker thread with N/A dyno numbers on the first page; http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/the-dyno-numbers-are-in.200499/ The head flow wasn't that huge, but it still made decent power because the flow was improved while not having to lift the valve to the moon so to speak. That is a great thread, shows what kind of power a sbb can make without breaking the block like a BBB would at that level! I think the conclusion info about this build is being hush, hush until Sean can finish his book, then all will be revealed? Derek
