I am going to try to set my idle mixture better. I have some problems with the car idling too fast, and not likeing to be put into gear. It wants do die. Especially in reverse. It smells very rich, and have developed a bit of a bog on hard acceleration. Which port exactly, do I use on my 1970 GS quad to hook my vacuum gauge. Is it big, little, front, back, up, or down? I have read the post from the Mopar site, and can do the work, but am unsure of where to hook it up. Thanks.
    Regards, John.

    John,
Front of carb, passenger side. It's usually capped off. When you pull off the cap, there will be strong vacuum at idle.

    Thanks Larry!
You keep pulling my fat out of the fire. I still have not had time to get the info from my shop guys about my other questions that you have been helping me with.( Advance = heat?) I hope to get that info before the Nats. I, will be leaving Wednesday A.M., with one of the groups from the Chicago Chapter. It will be my first Nationals. I hope to get some advice and pick up some knowledge there. Oh yeah, and have lots of fun too!
    Regards, John.

Larry. None of my ports are capped. Attatched is a picture. I asume that the one you are talking about is the one on the passenger side top. It goes to that ported vacuum switch we talked about in another post. (Vacumm advance is also hooked up to that switch.) The one below that on passenger side is for the vacumm break, and below that, is the PCV hose. Am I right?
    Regards, John.

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

Leave the carb alone. Use the vac port on the back of the intake for the transmission governor. Your bog is typical of the vacuum secondary brake being bad. Also, make sure your throttle shaft in the base plate has no play, if so, you need to have it re-bushed.

Vacuum gauge goes to the passenger side top. Just disconnect it and install the vacuum gauge. That TV switch in the manifold, if functioning is shutting off vacuum to the distributor in 1st and 2nd gear. Try eliminating it. Run a hose from the drivers side top of the carb, directly to the distributor advance unit. Also, make sure the vacuum break in the front is working when the engine is running.
