Which weight motor oil is everyone using on their 300 motors? My climate is in the NorthEast so we do see quite a swing in temps. Also any specific brand that everyone has had good luck with?

    Thanks,
    Steve

    15w-40 Shell Rotella diesel oil

has a lot more zinc than typical auto oils as well as extra detergents. if you want REALLY high concentrations of zinc, get ahold of a Rotella distributor, the CI-4 ( pre-Oct 2006, much higher zinc levels ) formulation can still be purchased by the 5 gallon pail.

new EPA regs are forcing down zinc levels in all oils. what you'll find on the shelf now is all CJ-4 spec.

I beleive the last Car Craft issue had a good right up on oil's. They also had really good article on cam break inn, that touched on oils as well. I talked to the guy who did my heads and he said that they are getting lots of guys messing up new cams on hot rods...he thinks it has to do with less zinc in these new oils...

I'm using Schaeffer 15W-40. Its not available in NJ. Really helps. Similar to the rotella mentioned earlier.
