I'm trying to decide on which carb would be the better street carb. Then which would be the better strip carb. Combo: TA intake, stock heads, TA 310 cam, ~10:1, 3000 stall converter, 4.10 gears all in a ~3800 pound Lincoln Towncar. Later in the summer i'm going to put on some heads i've been practing porting on. The Towncar hooks real well and cruises like your on a cloud of air. :laugh: Looks like the Chevy II might not make the streets this summer so i'll be cruising in the Lincoln. I'm going to St.Ignace (300 miles) this year and would like to take the Lincoln, Then to Woodward (60 miles) and my local cruise night. I'm thinking the 650 might be best for the economy since it has the small primaries but then the 600 is an emissions carb and should also do well. Okay, I know this wasn't on the list of choices, but I've had great success with the Edelbrock 750 on several small blocks (of different makes). It "holds" its setting very well, is easier to work on than the Holley (to me anyway), and comes polished! You can put on a smaller squirter and jet down the primaries for street cruising, and run the secondary metering for max power. I use this setup on my Skylark, and with a 2600-2800 converter and 4.56 gears, it needs all the economy tuning I can give it! This carb gives me that tuning flexibility. You can do the same idea with a Holley, but that's my 2 cents (actual value may vary).
This wasn't a choice either, but I'd go with a Quadrajet. To me its the best carb going. It's good with gas mileage and I've seen them in the 10's at the dragstrip.
I use a 750 double pump Holley. My 60fts should speak for themselves. I have 373 gears and a 3000 stall convertor 230-245@.50 cam 507 lift. You just have to dial in the pump shot with the shooters and the cams on the carb. I have 4 corner idle with this carb and you can adjust the idle real good with this just use a vaccume gage when adjusting the carb. Also use a 1 inch open spacer if you have a TA intake. This is what I have. With the TA intake you can use a square bore carb like the Holley. The stock intake requires a Q-jet or a spread bore Holley. You cant use the Edlebrock or the CarterAFB with the stock Intake either. Plus you need an adapter. I used all of these carbs except the Edelbrock and Q-jet, (too much trouble to take apart). To me the Holley came out on the top for me and is very easy to work on. :3gears:

If racing is the priority then go with the 750 double pumper, if street cruising is still important at all then use the 750 with vac secondaries. I don't care for quadrajets personally, I ran them on all of my cars for a long time and just don't think that they offer the ease of tuning that a holley does--I know, I know, I'm one of those unsophisticated heathens Not running a quad is considered downright blasphomy by some people on this board but whatta ya gonna do? :moonu: ...kidding. I am using a 3310 750 with vac sec's and a manual choke and have had a good deal of success tuning it for max performance and yet still being able to knock down decent mileage by staying out of the "go" pedal--the vac secs don't open up unless they need to. With a double pumper in a big car you will find that during "normal" street use the secodaries will open up even if just a little and will absolutely KILL your gas mileage...but I know that that isn't usually the first concern :3gears: :laugh:
