I figure i'll post this over here for a better response. :Comp: Any way i have a good 800 cfm 170 carb that has electric choke and has been recently rebuilt. I was wondering what would be a good starting point for the rods and jets. i'd like the primarys set for mileage and the secondaries to provide the rest of the gas needed for performance. i feel i have a good grasp on rebuilding and tuning these carbs after reading the roe book every night. I've got ~10:1 comp, mild polished 72 heads, 1 5/8 headers, 2.5" exhaust dumped, ta intake, 3000 stall, 4.10 gear in a 4200 pound lincoln. my timing is set at 15 initiali and 35 total then at 49 total with vac connected via manifold vacuum. i have already open up the idle needle holes a little to get some control of the idle mixture. i'm switching over from a holley 750 double pumper that was only giving me 6-8 mpg. i am hoping to get 10-12 mpg if possible. Thanks Jeramie

I think jets and rods are an experiment thing. Since everyone's combo is different, there is no set formula. I have the same carb as you and I'm running #74 jets. Can't remember the rods off hand though.
