Which intake for a 300?

I have a 65' Skylark with a bone stock 300 2 bbl. I'm looking to find a 4 bbl and intake for it. Can you guys help me out with which motors have a compatible direct bolt-on 4 bbl intake?

    Will a 340 4 bbl intake fit?

    Thanks,
    Steve

If my numbers are right, you can shave 0.115" off (intake and/or heads) and get the Wilpower P76 single plane to fit. (Australian) Maybe. Or just use the factory 4bbl.

the 215/Rover, 300 and 340 are all different deck heights. i've heard of using a 215 intake on the 300 but you have to fabricate a fairly large spacer between the head and block to make it work.

the 64 300 has aluminum heads and intake but the runners are quite a bit narrower and most of the small block guys seem to recommend going with the 65-67 300 4v heads and intake.

Only the '65 cast iron 4 barrel intake will work correctly, though some have used the '64 aluminum one. There were no '66-'67 300-4 barrels, and the 340 intake is too wide. There are no bolt on aftermarket intakes, so you'll need to find a '65.

If you try to put a 215 sized intake onto a cast iron 300 head, you'll have a major port mismatch. Better to try and find the cast iron 1965 4bbl intake.

There is a 65 4 in the for sale parts section, has carb and intake and looks like a buy for 275.00.The only one that will fit is the 65 cast iron one so Aaron is correct.I wanted to but the other one for sale but just cannot swing it financially right now but its a good price for a hard to find intake........Bruce.

    Bruce,

Yes!! I just noticed that you posted this above, thanks for that. I actually just happened to be strolling through the parts section and noticed it.

    Thanks,
    Steve

    Jim,

Looks like a great choice but how do you find one of those? What do they run for?

I'm with Jim on the Wilpower intake. Shave the port side. Good idea, Jim. For the sake of lower RPM throttle response with a single plane I'd go with a smaller carb. Like Edelbrock's 500. Cool.

So far that's about all I have except for the parent site:

    http://au.geocities.com/p76cortina/P76intoTC.html

Here's a link with some more info, showing a variety of intakes:

    http://www.mez.co.uk/ms12.html

or you might try inquiring here:
    jrivett@ausfirst.com
    p76v8@yahoo.com

    Also this quote:
    "

    Christchurch 8153
    New Zealand

    Phone: 03 349-7263

Don't know the country code for New Zealand. He makes a nice single plane
intake for the Buick\Rover and I think, a block girdle. He's the Dan LaGrou
of NZ! If you talk to him, he knows his stuff! He's a P76 guru as well and
makes adapter plated to fit a Buick\Rover intake onto the tall deck block."

That's all I have right now.

Hi. The 65 Lesabre used the 300 V8. I believe it was the only engine available. You will have a better chance finding a 4 barrel intake on one of these in a wrecking yard rather than a Skylark.
    Good luck.
