Been over 25 years since I played with a 350. I plan to install a running 1976 (shortblock) 350 with 71 heads and T/A Stage1 4bbl intake. To avoid the oil water shake, which head gaskets do I use? Thanks.
Don't know if I would just trust the gaskets you might have to plug the coolant holes in the block ,don't know enough ask JW he might know!
gaskets 71-81 are the same .040 thick 68-70 are the ones I thought had the .020 shims gasket also thought you only had to plug the extra coolents(scallops) in 73+ heads if installing on an older block I know Sean knows hes one ive seen post several times about this issue . as for intake gasket, get the one from AMP http://automachperf.com/Buickperformanceparts.html ---------- Post added at 12:44 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:10 AM ---------- yes early heads68-72ish on later blocks = go time! lol later heads 73ish+(scallop) heads on early block needs extra passage in head plugged otherwise you'll have antifreeze/water going into the crankcase.. so yeah, no such thing to plug in the block on a 70+ block..only heads if it has the extra coolent passage. 68/69 blocks you'd need to block the center oil hole in block when changing the oiling system to a 70+ oil through pushrod setup you're good to go with nothing to do but install.
I have a '78 block with '69 heads and used standard FelPro gaskets, no problems. Sean would know for sure with your combo.
