I've been looking at replacing the stock intake and carb of my chevy straight six 250ci in my 69 Special Deluxe. But I cannot tell what will fit what? Do most 1 barrels fit the same 1 barrel hole and same for 2 and 4 barrels?? I'm also having a hard time finding the original carb for the straight six. Was it a Rochester single barrel? Are there different types of Rochester single barrels?? Thanks
It should be a Rochester Mono-jet, and I'm afraid the intake is a one-trick pony and will not accept larger carbs. As I mentioned in your other thread, you should consider an aftermarket aluminum intake. Oh no no no, I'm going to get an aftermarket intake. I want to run duel single barrels. But how will I know if the carbs will drown it because I might as well do what you did and put on a 4 barrel. And like I said, how will I know if the carb I end up buying will fit? Do GM carbs work on all GM's or is it engine specific or what?
Check out page 25 of the catalog, there's a dual monojet manifold, even a triple monojet manifold. Personally I'd just run a Q-jet; parts are easy to find and the engine will only get the airflow it needs. I think I ran part number 5416 with a squarebore to spreadbore adapter plate to make the q-jet work. Devon
Nope, I don't think there is another carb that will fit the monojet base and perform any better than what you have. There are one to two barrel adaptors, but your still choked by the one barrel hole in the manifold. Devon
Alright, well I'm still deciding if I'm going to get a 2 2-barrel intake or a 1 4-barrel intake but how will I know if it will just drown the engine? I mean it was designed for a single 1-barrel so those are pretty big steps up
