I almost have my engine(300) assembled and with the Edelbrock I'm using I'm going to have to get a 1" spacer.Question is which kind do I get?open, divided,or 4-hole?Any advie appreciated!

Use a 4-hole spacer, and make sure it will fit under your hood...it might not!

I know people here have used this combo before,I think the air filter is really the determining factor based on how much of a drop the base has,I don't think the Edelbrock filter I have will work but we'll see!I may just have to cut a hole in the hood!j/k

My Edelbrock air cleaner fits my 340 with no hood clearance problems. Yours should fit fine aslo. I had a 1+1/2" spacer ( now down to 1").

I had the same problem on my 340. I have the Edelbrock 1406 elect choke carb and matching air cleaner. We tried all sorts of aluminum spacers. In the end, what worked best, we got from NAPA - it was a bunch of layers that act like a spacer and heat shield - you alternate the metal and gasket material layers and build up the spacer to whatever height you need like a sandwich. Worked pretty slick, no linkage problems. I don't remember who made the kit though.

I bought a swirl torque 1" spacer from Summit. Its made to fit the Edlebrock performers & Carter afb (square bore).

$32 and it fit my '65 cast iron intake + 500 CFM Performer Carb perfectly.

    Summit part number TRD-2431

Also, used the Chrome Edlebrock open element air-cleaner (around $30) and didn't have any clearance issues with the hood.

    Hope this helps

Here's a picture I just took of what I had to do:

(Should it BE 50 degrees in Montana in January? Creepy...)

Also shows HEI and Edelbrock air cleaner.

    No clearance problems.

    Hope this helps...

The spacer gives enough room, but the aircleaner I have only has about a 1/2" drop on it so we shall see! Thanks for the help.

Well if it doesn't work for you - one of the Edlebrock Chrome open element air-cleaners drops a couple of inches (think mine was around $30) - but I don't have the part number off hand.
