Hi I want to order an engine for my buick skylark and I want to know which engine is the best or is it equal? Thx Guy
I prefer the 73-80, the 70 and newer oiling system is better. The 68-72 heads are more prone to cracking. The 73-80 connecting rods are stronger. The compression ratio in some of the 68-70 engines is 10:1 while others are 9:1. The 71-800 engines range from 8.5:1-8.0:1, the pistons determine that though so a piston swap is easily done.
Where are you planning to order an engine? I'd be wary of "cheap" online rebuilt engines. You get what you pay for.
In the Nederlands but I'm from Belgium. They are shipping it from the US, I think California. They are overhauling the engine. I thought that the late sixties were the best. Grtz
I would bet even if you ordered a '70 350 hi-comp. engine, it would probably come with 8 to 1 pistons.
Hey Grtz, First off - welcome to v8Buick! I see you are rather new on the board. Please heed the warnings from the members here. Not only are you having a Buick 350 built, you are also having it shipped at great cost no doubt! You don't want to have a world of problems when you end up with a "remanufacture mill" rebuilt motor. There are a number of great sources of information here on this board. And lots of horror stories to read! Best Wishes,
Ok but do you know some good adresses? I have called TA performence and they said 10 000 dollars for a 300HP engine but thats too much (money) Best regards, Guy
I would get a quote for a stock rebuild of a 73-80 engine with the exception of: -10:1 pistons -TA 212 cam -grooved cam bearings These are some great shops you could trust to build a good Buick 350: http://www.finishlinemotorsports.com/ http://www.trishieldperformance.com/ Gary Herche Phone Number: 812-767-2719 Address: North Vernon
