What's a good place to mount an MSD6al in the engine compartment? It is a street car so verything is still in the stock place (a/c stuff, voltage regulator, etc...). It looks like it may fit directly behind the power brake booster. What about where there charcoal canister is at behind the driver's haedlight bucket? Thanks, Brian
I have two holes in the firewall under the heater core opening. They look to be original, but I'm not sure. The holes aren't drilled, but look to be pressed in. The car had add-on air at one time, but now gone. The hoses went thru these holes. I plan on getting a rubber plug for the holes, drill a hole in one and mount the MSD box on the back side of the dash.
here is where mine is, it is not the usual location, but I have never had any problems whatsoever out of it.
If you look in the archieves you will see where Dr Weise mounts them almost completly out of sight on the back of the inner fender. I think Larry H hid his in the vent intake below the windshield wipers.
Yup, JW mounts them between the inner fender and fender, down low on the firewall. I have my MSD Digital 6+ mounted in the cowl.
Hey that's pretty cool, Larry! I may do that. The car doesn't see rain, so I guess that would help. I wonder if you have to remove anything to put it where JW does? That is also a good idea. Thanks, Brian
I put mine on the inside of the driver front fender right by the horns. I had to make a bracket to hang it, but you can't even see it and rev limiter adjustments are still easy. Bob
I am also thinking about putting it where the cruise control unit is as shown on armyguy298's car. That would provide the easiest access. Brian
I had mine in the same place as Larry and I drove my '70 ragtop every day. Rain won't hurt it, it's made for street cars.
I am going to put it under the w/washer fent. easy to get at, but not really that noticable. Thanks for the ideas guys, Brian
http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=321 In my opinion, worth the effort.. Takes about 3 hours in the shop here to do. Time varies with vehicle condition.. JW
Do you have to remove the inner fenderwell or is there another way, Jim? The hood and hood hinges are still off if that makes a difference. Brian
Sorry for the late reply gang. I finally used the digicam at work and took this pic. I installed my MSD over the winter. I really didn't want to mount it on the inner fender, I wanted it out of the way and still visible for "wow" affect and accessable to put the 3000 chip in it when I have to leave it at the shop for inspection.
I mounted mine between the passenger side headlights and the battery. I painted it black and you can't even see it.............unless you're REALLY looking.
Yeah it does. I will have to do that also if I take it in somewhere. That will fix them! Can the 6al run without a rev chip in it? Because if it will, someone could just remove it and that would be bad! I will have to try out that 3k chip, curious to see what it feels like! Brian
You don't want to see what it feels like! It's only a safety valve. If you stay on it while you're up against the chip, it'll sound like this : BAP BAP BAP BAP BAP BAP. I'd advise against it. Anything that makes a BAP sound can't be good. ou:
You just Did......you must be bad uzzled:  Im sitting here picturing you going BAP BAP BAP ....and no, I haven't been drinkin'
I mounted mine inside the passenger side fender (right behind the over flow container).... You can see it at all, but the RPM chips are still easily reachable.........
