Hi everyone, I read the thread about restoring the glovebox pad on 57/58 dashboards. It seems like everyone is reusing their original vinyl covers. However, mine is brittle and and already cracked in several places. Does anyone know where to get a similar vinyl material to recreate the pads? Chris
Hi Chris Yes, I am currently working on this and have been since last spring. It is not an easy "right on" scenario. The vinyl Buick used is a first generation "plastic" vinyl and the vinyls today tend to be more on the " near leather " side of things. Plus the new overlay to be correct needs to be heat treated to create the proper permanent leading edge on the face. Also the cover has to be created and folded all in one piece without cutting. That includes the edges and sides. All one piece. I am looking at a heat and vacuum system to do that.
Some interesting stuff on the BCA forums about this... http://forums.aaca.org/f162/how-do-series-learn-how-i-318040.html
