I was looking around, and can't find any new 3.08 gear sets for the 8.5 rear in my Skylark, except for newer Impala/Caprice stuff that I'm not sure will work. I won't use Richmonds since it's a street car and I've had noise issues with their stuff in the past. Any suggestions?

I am pretty sure the fellow that reworked my 8.5 bought US Gear.
Not sure about a vendor. I bet TA Performance could hook you up.

    Artie,
As far as I know, 8.5 is 8.5. I used Yukon Gears. I've had no problems at all and the rear is dead quiet. The Caprice stuff should be the same. It's a Chevy corporate center section, only difference is you have bolt in axles. Same posi as the GN.

While I'm at it, stock axles are 28 spline, right? I might even have some GN stuff still here left over...

Yes 28 splines Artie... I went with the Moser axles and 30 spline Eaton posi as well as Yukon 3.90 gears..

With the exception of gear ratio, that's the exact setup I ran in my GN:cool: Hundreds of launches and never a problem.

3.08 8.5 is 3.08 8.5 ...caprice, monte carlo, Buick, olds, pontiac, full size or A-body camaro trans am and or truck. They are all the same.

I have a very nice used set and am a dealer for Randy's and can get you new if you like also...?

149.99 or 189.99 street gear or street strip gear yukon brand.

You really should not have any problems with the used set I have...it still has the shim under the bearing too. Can not go wrong with the GM gear if you want quiet. Jim
