Horror!!! While preparing my car for it's long winters nap I noticed the rear frame is cracked. :ball: The crack is halfway between the rear wheel and the rear bumper and perfectly vertical. Does anyone know of a good place to get this welded in New England?
Thanks for your reply. I've seen a wide range of quality from shops and was hoping for a specifi recommendation from someone who had experience with a reputable shop. The crack is just the beginning of the things I need from a body shop so I'd like to find one I can use over and over.
I've had better luck with non automotive (body shops) welders. A good one would be like a company that installs custom truck body because they are neat and make a weld that is strong. Many times have welders on trailer and can fix it at your place, AL.
Before this gets welded, make sure you stop drill the crack. This is simply drilling a hole at the end of the crack, then make sure the welder removes all paint, rust, dirt etc... The weld will be stronger than the parent metal if done correctly. Good luck!
I don't know of any places, but had one welded up here years ago. Went to a guy that did heavy welding for anything - except body panels. He wasn't into the delicate stuff. He did frames, farm equipment, etc. Find someone like that.
