I'm on the hunt for a cheap 350 for my lo-buck Studebaker build-up. I'm thinking mid-late '70s (for the rod advantage), but what kind of Buicks had the 350? Sorry if that sounds a little dumb, but I'm no 350 expert. I want to look around, but knowing what did & didn't have 350s will help to narrow my search. And what cars came w/ the 2004R trannys that have the BOP bolt pattern? Thanx.

For the 200-4r trannies, any 84-88 G-body GM car would be your best bet to find one...Not sure what was the first year they came out...

As for the Buick 350 motor...I would think that at that point in time, from 74-80, any of the Buick car models would have had the 350 Buick motor as either the std motor or optional...Look for the front mounted distributor...No other GM make had it except Buick...Also, a quick id for the 350 motors, they had 350 cast into the intake manifold on top at the rear above the bellhousing...

Actually, you could find just about any GM engine in most of the lines. I seem to remember the Olds Omega coming stock with the Buick 350" as an option.

When it came to '70's cars - you really have to watch out. It could have come with a Chevy, Olds, Buick or Pontiac engine. Fortunately, the Buick engine is easy to spot with that front mounted dist.:TU:

All 200r4's come with the dual pattern bellhousing. They'll bolt up to any BOP or Chevy. 700r4's are almost all Chevy's, but there are a few of them around with dual patterns as well. 200r4's are the same overall length as a TH350 so you can use the existing drive shafts. In a swap for a 350, you move the crossmember back to the TH400 position and it is within an1/8 of an inch of bolting in. A little hogging out of the hole in the crossmember and you're good to go.

In 1967 Buick went to the BOP bellhousing when they discontinued using the nailhead in the bigger cars. I don't know about the small block bellhousings but I'd bet they went that way as well.

A friend of mine in Pittsburg, KS has a '53 Stude w/ a nailhead topped with 6 x 2's on a log manifold sticking through the hood. It's a killer both in looks and performance. He made swap meet sbc headers work on the nailhead by cutting off the two middle pipes and reversing them. Pretty slick and dirt cheap.

Great, guys. Thats the info I was looking for. I did not know the 2004R has the dual bolt pattern. The front mount dizzy is one of the big factors that made me decide to go w/ the Buick 350. That & the impressive torque numbers. Thanx!
